Dunno what is wrong with IF ....I Keep Getting these irritating ERROR MESSAGES...when ever I try to reply to your lovely comments....

PART 24
Geet blinked at the the crowded Galaxy Mall that stood before her. "This was his favorite hangout?" Something about Maan didn't fit in to this choice of hangout.

Did he visit this place often? With his friends? With an anonymous Girlfriend? For what? Shopping?.....

The thoughts about Maan walking into this spacious and well-equipped mall with a girl friend hanging onto his arm left a bitter taste in Geet's mouth. As much as she wanted things to get back to 'BANG BANG' times with Maan she was arrested in this 'one-sided love with no hope' mode. She was painfully aware that he would always look at her like a 'Sweet-and-crazy Friend' who harbored feelings for him which he was unable to reciprocate. She wanted to spend as much time as possible away from him once her job began....It would do no good to her to constantly remind herself to keep her thoughts 'friendly' and not 'more-than-friendly' with him before her eyes.

Ronnie seemed the right escapade. She couldn't trample the feelings that had blossomed in her heart for Maan but she could focus on setting her life on wheels to evade further hurt.

Maan had told her previously that he had no girlfriend. That only confirmed that he had not indulged in whispering sweet nothings into some girl's ears. What guarantee that some girl didn't feel for him? Maybe some poor soul was sailing in the same sinking ship as Geet.....the only difference being that she had told Maan and maybe the others hadn't.

It was hard...harder than Geet expected to remain bubbly and chirpy all the time, to veil her wounded heart...but Geet had succeeded. She laughed still, she smiled still, she irritated him still, she got angry with him still, she was friends with him still, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY SHE LOVED HIM STILL.....

"Galaxy Mall?" she eyed him.

He was clad in the faded denims and steel gray loose shirt she had bought for him. It enriched his features. Even a dull colour like gray felt alive against his skin.

'MIDAS TOUCH!' Geet thought silently.

"We have some shopping to do. Then we will head for my JANNAT" he winked.

He had firmly decided to leave his tangled thoughts about 'Horny Ronnie' or whatever back at the branch of that cursed tree and enjoy the day with Geet. He remembered his glorious days in Ambala.....Sameer and him basking underneath the Ambala sun and flying in the skies like two soaring birds. This was the place where he had first tasted the feel of air....He wanted to make Geet enjoy the small delights of this place as much as he had once enjoyed. FRIENDS SHARE JOYS!

"Shopping? For what? Armour? Are you planning to attack me again? That's your favorite sport I suppose"

"How about we buy you a roll of chewing gum to keep your mouth occupied and prevent unnecessary verbal showdowns?" Maan suggested.

To have a decent conversation with Geet without jabs, taunts and sarcasm was like expecting Micheal Jackson to unlearn Moonwalk, like expecting Bush and Osama to have picnic together.....

He honestly didn't want to spoil the day arguing with Geet over petty issues. He just hoped she was as exhausted as he was.

Geet rolled her eyes and walked forward into the mall. Maan let a small smile touch his lips at her silence and followed her.

He took her to a blooming apparel shop. It had a gorgeous variety of clothes....ethnic, modern, classy, traditional.
Geet looked around her in puzzlement.

"Clothes? Why do we have to shop for clothes?" she asked him.

"Just pick a pair" he let his fingers run over an array of jeans hung on the line.

Geet raised an eyebrow. "Why? My desi look will embarrass you? Funny Mogambo cause just look around you....95% females are clothes in salwar suits. This is Punjab..."

"Geet please stop creating a scene and pick out a pair and choose a blouse. We are getting late...."

Geet crossed her arms and studied his face leisurely. She wasn't going to succumb to him so easily.

"Geet, I assure you it is out of necessity that I am begging you to buy these"

Geet let out a sneer.."Necessity??? That sounds crazy to me..."

"Geet please...." his tone was sincere. Geet cursed her heart for taking leaps seeing his honey gaze melt with a plea. She hurriedly picked up the nearest leggings and a blouse from the adjacent rack and rushed off to the trial room. She didn't want to him to witness the interplay of emotions her heart was brewing due to his scorching gaze and sincere plea.

"Girls....I am sure she'll take minimum half an hour to put that on. I better get myself some coffee and this girl some Horlicks till then..." he made to walk out of the shop.

"Ditching me and running?" a voice made him turn.

It was less than two minutes and Geet stood before him all dressed. The leggings exaggerated her slim build while the white loose shirt she had opted for fell casually below her waist. Her hair was loose and clouded around her glowing face. She looked like a killer. White blouse, blue denims and Geet- TRIPLE DISASTER RECIPE!

"Something is odd!"

Geet frowned. At least a 'you look fine' would have done but all he came up with was a 'something is odd'. This guy was infuriating. Not that she was pining for his compliments but he never seemed to find any thing good in her.

Before she realized he closed the distance between them and pulled her close.

He began tucking her shirt into her jeans. 'Pink' the infamous colour graced her cheeks. His action was creating frenzied fireworks within her. She stepped away hastily.

"I'll do it.." she quietly began tucking the rest of the shirt into her jeans.

Maan stepped back and looked on as she completed the job. The sharp way in which she had backed off from him had him thinking that maybe she was still mad at him for making her wear such clothes.

"I am sorry about this. But once you reach the place you'll understand why I insisted on this wear..." Maan told her gently.

Geet just gave him a blank look and he went ahead to pay for the clothes.

"You like it?" he asked her breaking the spell.

Her voice felt extinct. She had never been to a stable before . It was fabulous. Neat, clean with all the emergency equipment- fire management systems,vet clinics, water channels. The barn was well-maintained and above all the animals were lovely.

The well brushed manes and shiny coats, heart warming eyes and regal trotting. The horses were in one word 'beautiful'. Geet let out a deep sigh of admiration.

"Maan....tum yahaan?" a shaky voice greeted them from behind.

Maan let a smile dazzle his looks as he rushed forward and engulfed the old man in a tight hug.

" Riyaaz Chacha...aap kaise hain?"

The old man gave a toothy grin and replied "Zinda hoon. Tujhe dekh kar bahut khushi ho rahi hain. Sameer nahi aaya?"

Maan's face fell. He gathered his voice and said "Chacha, Sameer ab is duniya mein nahi raha."

The old man was hit by his words. Geet stood there hearing the exchange between them quietly.

"Kab?"

"Chaar saal ho gaye hain....Ek test flight mein..." he couldn't continue.

The old man muttered a silent prayer and held Maan's hands affectionately.

"Maan....ab tu kahaan hain? Kaunse post mein hain tu?" Riyaaz Chacha diverted the topic.

"Main Group Captian ban chuka hoon...magar Dad bhi ab nahi rahe isiliye ab main unka business sambhal raha hoon"

The man nodded his head understandingly.

"Aur yeh kaun hain?" Riyaaz glanced at Geet.

"Dost...Main isse yeh jagah dikhane ke liye laaya hoon."

Riyaaz Chachu smiled fondly at Geet "Pari jaisi dikhti hain...."

Geet beamed back.

"Mujhe kaam hain Maan. Tum jao...Shayari wahin pe hain. Bahut badi ho gayi hain....Tumhe zaroor pehchaanegi...Main chalta hoon. Ab toh tum yahaan aate jaate rahoge na?"

"Haan chachu jab tak Ambala mein hoon....aana jaana toh hoga hi. Aap apna khayal rakhiye...."

The old man smiled at Geet and walked off.

Maan caught Geet's wrist and excitedly dragged her to the farthest end of the stable.

'Shayari'- She was a gorgeous animal with a mischievous sparkle in her eye and a habit of flipping her tail up like a flag as she trotted. There was something unearthly and angelic in the spring of her walk.

Maan approached her with a fond remembrance. He extended his hand to touch her....Just as his hand came close she butted him with her head and sent him staggering backwards, laughing.

His smile was devastating. He took hold of Shayari's head and planted a kiss on her nose. Geet smiled, touched by his gesture.

"You remember me right? Sharp memory sweetie. I missed you.....and so does Sameer."

Maan's voice was pulsating with emotion and Geet wanted to reach out to him.

"Come on Geet. Hop on she'll give you a great ride...." Maan wheeled around and told Geet.

Geet understood his insistence on wearing something more comfortable.

"I can't....I don't know how to ride..." she mumbled.

"Nothing difficult. Come on gal....It is fun" he persuaded.

Geet shook her head nervously and put her foot in the stirrup. She really didn't feel much of anything at all. She grabbed the saddle horn, Maan's hands strong around her waist as she took a hop and slid into the saddle. Once astride, she realized that the stirrups were too long for her legs.

"I can't reach..." she whined.

Maan's eyes gleamed for a second before she saw him put his hurt foot on one stirrup and hoist himself behind her. The saddle was not made for two people. They both were squeezed into it. Geet just tried to concentrate on the fact that she was going to enjoy her first horse ride...but the dizzying proximity chased all the thoughts away.

This was even closer than the rain dance she had shared with him succeeding her confession. He was so close that she could feel his steady heart beat against her shoulder.

"You have a rubberband?" he asked. His voice prickled the back of her neck with warmth.

"No..." she murmured back.

"Guess will have to do without it then...You ready then?" he asked her.

She nodded mutely. His right hand came round her gripping the reins and his left hand securely wrapped around her waist, holding her firmly against him.

Her breath was caught in her chest and she inched away from him unconsciously. Her hair ruffled back as she gripped the saddle horn, surprised by the jolt of the gait.

And feeling more in delight. A delight that had nothing to do with the fact that this was her first cherishable horseride but everything to do with the guy who sat behind her safely guiding the beast across the lush lawns.....a guy named MAAN SINGH KHURANA.

"You enjoyed?" he asked handing over the bag in which her salwar suit was tucked away.

She nodded.

"Thanks a lot....This was really enjoyable."

"I am glad you enjoyed the ride. Change quickly we have to reach back home for lunch. I am starving...all that riding is taking its toll" he grinned at her.

She shook her head and rushed into the open and yet empty vet clinic to change into her clothes....

She felt elated.

These hours that she had spent securely against him on that saddle, knowing that he would be there to hold her in case any thing happened...were more than precious.
