1.Kareena Kapoor

What She Did: To be part of the most successful film in recent Hindi film history- 3 Idiots. And Kambakkht Ishq though unwatchable was a hit. No one knows how to stay at the top better than Kareena. While it may be a tad mystifying as to how she is Number.1 after Kurbaan and Main Aur Mrs Khanna in 2009, the answer may well lie in her sheer redoubtable star power. Sure any idiot can tell you she didn't have much to do in 3 Idiots but no one seems to be complaining least of all the directors who want her to ink their projects. Kareena has a way of stealing the show and she should have got a patent on that by now. After all she is one of two only actresses to feature in the overall Top Ten Power list too.
Future Projects: Ra.One with Shah Rukh Khan, We Are Family produced by Karan Johar, Agent Vinod with beau Saif Ali Khan and Golmaal 3.
Filmfare Tip: Steer clear of the Kambakkht Ishqs please. They g ives us ulcers.

2.Katrina Kaif

What She Did: Location, location, location. Katrina Kaif knows exactly where to place herself, what to choose and what to project. Meryl Streep she is not and she knows that. Sexy she is, picture perfect poster girl too and one helluva commercial success if there was one. In 2009 Katrina had the successful New York, De Dhana Dan, which was a middling success and then came along Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in which all she had to do was play to her strengths — look pretty act pretty. And in 2010 she managed to follow it up with Raajneeti. This is one game plan Kat. We like.
Future Projects: Kat has Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara where she has Farhan Akhtar and Hrithik Roshan for company, Dostana 2 and Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan.

3.Priyanka Chopra

What She Did: Holding on to what you've got can be a pretty nerve racking but Priyanka Chopra's got the hang of it. She shone in Kaminey in 2009 and tried her best to save both Pyaar Impossible and What's Your Raashee? from their inevitable fates but couldn't quite manage it. Even though her box office clout might be a little suspect right now, Priyanka stays put at No. 3 simply due to her undeniable talent and screen presence. The camera loves her and so does the audience. What more can a heroine want?
Future Projects: She has trump cards like Don 2 and Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf where she is again in a powerfully scripted role. She will also be seen in the breezy romcom Anjaana Anjaani opposite current toast of the town Ranbir Kapoor.
Filmfare Tip: Maybe more grit not just glam is your style. Case in point Fashion and Kaminey.

4.Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

What She Did: All Aishwarya Rai Bachchan needs to do to be in the news is to be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. With her it's not just about her movies. It's about Brand Aishwarya. She had one international release Pink Panther in 2009 but nothing on the desi front. This year she hasn't had a great start with Raavan even though she has personally garnered good reviews but it ain't no matter really. Brand Aishwarya reigns supreme.
Future Projects: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish opposite Hrithik Roshan and Vipul Shah's Action Replayy with Akshay Kumar and Endhiran with Rajnikant.

5. Deepika Padukone

What She Did: She tossed around some acting chops in Love Aaj Kal and we forgave her for Chandni Chowk To China. Deepika Padukone stays at No. 5 due to her undeniable allure and commercial appeal. She is all things heroine and this works in her favour. This year she had one hit and one miss with Housefull and Karthik Calling Karthik. And yes her best is so yet to come and we'll be watching.
Future Projects: A steady line-up with Danish Aslam's Break Ke Baad with Imran Khan, Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey with Abhishek Bachchan and Pradeep Sarkar's Lafangey Parindey with Neil Nitin Mukesh.

6.Kajol

What She Did: If Kajol lay low in 2009, it was only the quiet before the storm that was her performance in My Name Is Khan. She didn't have a single release in 2009. And yet she climbs up two notches. Well if the big screen has a sweetheart then it would be Kajol and hence there is no analysing this one. But it might be a while before we see Kads on screen again thanks to an enthusiastic stork who came visiting. But we still have We Are Family before that.
Future Projects: Karan Johar's We Are Family and the long stuck Toonpur Ka Superhero opposite hubby Ajay Devgn.
Filmfare Tip: Make babies. But please make films too. Pretty please.

7.Vidya Balan

What She Did: She made a comeback that's what she did. She snuck in through the back door with Paa and surprised everyone with the impact of her role and conviction of her performance. No wonder her onscreen son Amitabh Bachchan still calls her Vidya Maa. She also bagged the Filmfare Award for it last year. And early this year she followed it up with
Ishqiya. So after vanishing from the power list in 2008 she is back in 2009 with a bang. Now that's how it should be done.
Future Projects: As of now Vidya has the gritty No One Killed Jessica directed by Rajkumar Gupta.

8.Bipasha Basu

What She Did: She continued to glam up the films she was part of. So Aa Dekhen Zara came a cropper but All The Best was a success and even though her roles in both were really nothing to crow about, Bipasha managed to grab eyeballs. But she has slipped down a notch and some quick thinking might be required to breathe some fresh air into her career.
Future Projects: At the time of going to print Rahul Dholakia's Lamhaa would have been released and she also has Rohan Sippy's Dum Maro Dum.
Filmfare Tip: Revamp, reinvent, rethink.

9.Sonam Kapoor

What She Did: So she proved she could hold her
own in Delhi-6 and the nation was humming Masakali for months. And even though Sonam may have some proving to do on the acting chops front, her screen presence is unmistakable. And so is her ability to look both Indian and western with equal panache. Also she seems in no hurry to sign every movie in sight
and that's always a good sign. Watch this Sonam space for sure.
Future Projects: I Hate Luv Storys opposite Imran Khan would have released by the time this goes into print. She also has her home production Aisha based on Jane Austen's Emma and Pankaj Kapur's Mausam opposite Shahid Kapoor.
Filmfare Tip: Slow and steady wins the race.

10.Genelia D'Souza

What She Did: So this year's wild card entry is still waiting to exhale but the promise she has is obvious. A huge star down South, darling of Telugu cinema and the face that seems to be launching a thousand brands, Genelia is only poised on the verge of something big. So Chance Pe Dance was a b-o turkey but one flop doth not make or break a career.
Future Projects: We hear she may be doing Santosh Sivan's next. And the buzz around her is undeniable and will soon translate.
Filmfare Tip: Looking North talking South is not a bad idea at all.
