Shah Rukh Khan may don Amitabh's cap, while Akshay Kumar might stand in for Shashi Kapoor

This is the season of remakes. While young filmmakers are busy remaking classics, Yash Chopra is planning to remake his own '70s block-buster Kabhie Kabhie. Originally made with Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Rakhee, the new version is likely to have Shah Rukh Khan playing Amitabh and Akshay Kumar playing Shashi Kapoor. If the project falls into place, Yash Chopra will be working with Akshay Kumar for the first time.
"Yashji has been planning to remake Kabhie Kabhie with stars of today's generation for some time," says an industry insider. "Of course, it won't be a frame-to-frame remake of the earlier film. The subject may be similar but the treatment and approach will be far more contemporary."
Apparently when Yash Chopra mentioned the idea of the remake to his favorite hero, Shah Rukh Khan, the actor was pretty excited. Currently he is acting in another Bachchan remake, Don, but obviously Amitabh's role in Kabhie Kabhie is a dream role for any actor. "Shah Rukh was his first choice for Amitabh's role. He thought of casting Akshay Kumar for the second role because of his current box-office status. Shah Rukh and Akshay have never worked together, so it's a new combination which may just turn out well," he adds. Allegedly Yash Chopra has already sent feelers to Akshay Kumar. Currently the actor is away in Cape Town and he will meet Chopra once he is back from his outdoor shoot. Yashraj Films had also approached Rani Mukherji for Rakhee's role. Apparently Rani doesn't have dates available, so now they are considering Preity Zinta.
