Actually Mujra is more of an inappropriate dance for kids then Lavani.

Mujra is a form of dance blended with some Kathak. This dance form was traditionally performed suring "mehfils" when men would come, and the woman would entertain in the Kothas (brothel). As years went on, mujra was then associated with the word "prostitute".

"During the Indian Rebellion of 1857 mujra performances provided an opportunity for revolutionaries to meet and many tawaif were also actively involved in the movement. As a result, many kothas were confiscated by the British after the rebellion, disrupting the traditional tawaif succession.By the early 1900s, many tawaif had moved into the prostitution industry as the traditional system had broken down. Mujra has experienced a modern revival in India and other countries such as Russia. Modern mujra dancers perform at events like weddings, birthday events and bachelor parties, often performing a modern form of mujra along with popular Bollywood dance styles. Mujra has been depicted in Bollywood films like Umrao Jaan and Devdas."

Lavani "comes from the word Lavanya which means beauty . This is one of the most popular forms of dance and music that is practiced all over Maharashtra. It has in fact become a necessary part of the Maharashtrian folk dance performances. Traditionally, the songs are sung by female artistes, but male artistes may occasionally sing Lavanis. The dance format associated with Lavani is known as Tamasha. Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance, which particularly performed to the enchanting beats of 'Dholak', an drum like instrument. Dance performed by attractive women wearing nine-yard saris. They are sung in a quick tempo. The verve, the enthusiasm, the rhythm and above all the very beat of India finds an expressive declaration amidst the folk music of India, which has somewhat, redefined the term "bliss"."

Either way, this is a dance show, and there are many things we might find inappropriate. I don't think girls doing pelvic moves as Hansika or Papiya has done are appropriate, but it is a part of a dance form, so we let it be. Many thought Vaishnavi shouldn't have danced to that contemporary number because of the concept, but that is what contemporary is. It is poetry in motion, depicting a stroy, either love, hurt, pain, etc. so i didn't think anything was wrong with it. We all have our opinions I guess. The skippers know what they are doing and so do the masters. If they thought something was inappropriate, they would say it. 😊

I do not know the core concepts of hinduism but all I know is they do practice sacrifice in tamil nadu/nepal/tripura/kerala/andhra and a lot of other states
and that the government is trying to bring a law against them..

DO not presume to be an encyclopaedia on the issue😊

I enjoy watching paso doble. it is as figurative as you want it to be. I do not enjoy lavni because of the insinuations!

Smile finally someone said it.........people were actually making a point that lavani, a traditional dance based in Maharashtra which is performed during auspicious days was not appropriate but mujra which is performed in brothels by prostitutes to lure potential clients is appropriate for a kids show...........😃 we really are living in kalyug wherein D sir and vaishnavi are criticized for choreogprahing and performing a traditional dance and jai and Papiya are applauded for choreographing and performing a mujra.......😭

😕 Thank you for calling me ignorant first of all as once again you have proved that you can't engage in a conversation without personally attacking those woh don't agree with you..........😕 and I forgot google was the ultimate fact checker. huh? If it's on youtube, it must be true of course......😕 and if you don't know about hinduism don't comment on it in a deragartory manner...you can't just make the world think that Hindus engage in animal sacrficie by making unfounded statements ......😕 and good for you that you enjoy paso doble, but don't belittle others who may not like watching a depiction of a bull being slaughtered......😕

8 smileys ankit? How I missed this forum! 😆
I liked both dances but the song choice for vaishnavi was definitely a little inappropriate. 😕

Topic Closed...
Sad to see from a simple Lavni topic the debate has reached on religion..and as per IF rules members have to respect religious sentiments of others and not to criticize and attack...
Why cant we all discuss in healthy way?..the contestants dances as per their Skippers choreography...it is the duty of viewers to just write few words of apprieciation or reason of not liking the perfomances..and here I think we shud applaud the kids for doing such grt work and putting their efforts...
Why one has to argue or debate?...can't we discuss in nice and friendly way?..why we want to impose our views or ideas on others..the reason most of the topics get heated up cos of imposing our views on others or dictating others...
Well the show will be over in few months..but we loose a chance of making a good friend cos of our stubborn views and attitude..life is short my dear...apprieciate others and respect all...friends will always be with you and more will add in your list cos of ur simple and adjustable nature...
I closed this Topic cos of religious reasons..
