There we go... In the order I personally liked them today:
1. Papiya 10/10 - What a choreography! If we ever doubted why Jai was called the King of Props, I think he's proven again and again in these few weeks just how good he treats the objects he uses. Papiya was beautiful, elegant, but most importantly she danced just as wonderfully. It's important, as Farah said, and I whole-heartedly agree, that a choreographer knows how to combine all of that. Well deserved MJ Band for sure! There are some performances you seem to have no words when you've just watched, even if afterward, you might find mistakes. That was one of them. Astounding! 😲
2. Divyam 9.75/10 - It's been almost a decade or so, if I am not mistaken, that I have seen such a skin-tingling moon walk. He didn't deserve to go, especially not after his last three performances, and especially because there are weaker dancers left on the show. But Vatsal went out before him, so we're not going to cry on the rule of the show. It's sad that he went, sadder that he went away after such a mind blowing performance. Minus 0.25 because at 1 place, I felt he was about to slip, but recovered beautifully nevertheless. 😛
3. Jeetumoni 9.5/10 - It seems most of you didn't like his performance, but it worked big time for me. I've always been a sucker for emotions, since DID Season 1, and not only were Jeetu's expressions cute, but wonderfully apt too. He lived up to the feeling of that song, and contemporary is exactly that. About whether they were loud or not, I personally believe contemporary is about dancing larger than life, so provided that your expressions are with the song, it does not matter how subtle or lour they are. Papiya showed that you can emote subtly and beautifully, Jeetu showed you can emote loudly and beautifully. For me, THAT worked. Of course minus 0.5 because he's done better, and can do better! 😃
4. Vaishanavi 9.5/10 - Is there something she can't do at all? After last week, this was definitely a great way to come back. That's what I would have asked Dharmesh too, to give her performances that strike and match her personality. She seems to do better in Indian dances, but then anyone remember that Waltz where she was a Doll with Ruturaj? That was out of this world. So I think she can pretty much do anything... There's a "thehrao" in her dance, a maturity that very able dancers can show, and I like watching that. I've minuted 0.5 because somehow the whole impact wasn't that great, for me.
5. Vatsal 9.25/10 - First things first, am just glad to see him back, and even more glad to see Jai getting up and cheering for him all the same. That gesture was really sweet above all. Did anyone see his upper back during the whole performance? There wasn't a single step it went bent or sided or anything! Now that's WOW! Amazingly well performed. What didn't work is the dance steps. The stunts are remarkable, but dance also consists of dance+stunts. We're so used to seeing Vatsal doing beautiful dances. I felt Amrita could have given much better steps than what she did. Also, I absolutely disliked what she said about the challenge. I appreciate and take a bow at the kind of passion Amrita shows for dancing, at least from what I've seen from DID Season 2, but I don't think what she said was sign of a very intelligent performer or choreographer. I don't say she doesn't care about Vatsal, but personally, I don't think you prove one mistake in a performance by taking higher risks for the next performance. And I think Remo felt that too... 😕
6. Ruturaj 9/10 - He reminded me of Dharmesh when he did some steps, some 1-2 steps that no one can do as well as Dharmesh does. I am glad Dharmesh didn't put his original DID Season 2 steps in there though... That would have become boring to watch. Even I am glad Remo and Geeta had insisted for Ruturaj to remain in the show from the Mega. He's an awesome dancer and has a flexible body despite being relatively heavy weight. And he fits into so many types of dances, I mean doing Hip Hop as effortlessly as doing Waltz is not everyone's cup of tea, not even Dharmesh by the looks of it. So, am really really proud of Ruturaj. Minus 1 for what the stunts he has to work on... 😊
7. Atul 8.75/10 - Again, prop! Superb, is there any object in this world that Jai cannot use in his dance? However, I thought that the umbrella was a bit under-used. He could have done better with that, so much more, therefore my minuting one mark. The 0.25 more because I though the energy was a bit left out towards the end especially. Yeah I know they're kids, but this is still a competition, and Atul's been one of my favorites. I want to see good performances, something I know BOTH Atul and Jai together can provide! 😳
8. Avneet 8.25/10 - Pantomime is about expressions, and let's make that clear, that from my side, I didn't see much of it. Maybe Farah did from where she was sitting so we're not going to go into that. Or maybe just the camera angles were disastrous. Again, very disappointing choreography from Mayuresh-Vrushali. There was a lot more of running around. I said further up that expressions work big time for me, but expressions does not equate to dance on its own. I personally felt that there were little steps where one could go WOW, if there were any.
9. Manoj 7.5/10 - I practically skipped large potions of the act, because it was not only poorly choreographed, but poorly presented. That's something Mayuresh-Vrushali really need to learn and buck up. Presenting an act makes a whole lot of difference while watching it, and I think since the past few days, their acts have been very poorly presented. Manoj's not a weak dancer, he wouldn't have been here if that were the case, but I just felt, watching this one, that the choreographers haven't learnt how to trap his weak points and enhance his strong points, like Jai has learnt to do so perfectly with Divyam, or had now. 😔
Overall, I felt Jai was definitely the skipper of the day, and Remo's bands proved that. When it started off, I was rooting for Mayuresh-Vrushali really, since I thought I would see magic like Terence from his students. I guess we know why they say a teacher teaches, but a student only shines by himself. And the moment Mayuresh started asking for ideas from his fans, whilst Jai was more enthusiastic about what he had been thinking of doing since long, I guess I knew it there and then. Dharmesh is impressive, and I was expecting that after seeing two of his own choreography from last season. The worry with him is, he hasn't learnt all dance forms, experience obviously, so Jai tends to have a slight edge there. Amrita's been pretty absent for me so far, but now that she's got Vatsal, I hope she takes some time out, thinks about things and gets to serious work. We know she can do it, no one can match that kind of passion for dance. 👍🏼
On the judges end, I found Sandip really annoying today, he's taking out his hat at every performance, and he seems to be falling short of words. Only the 3 MJ bands really deserves the Hats off today, or so I felt. Apart from that, he's okay. I am impressed by Farah so far, very. I guess there's a reason she's the Queen of choreography, or so termed by the industry. I was expecting drama and stiffness when the season started out, but I think she's good. But I still miss my three mentors, there's nothing that beats that trio. And I miss all three of them! 😍
