Aamir Khan goes good wit hunting
For Peepli Live, the actor has devised an innovative promotional tactic to make fun of himself. The promo will have no mention of his film though
Aamir Khan is known for his publicity stunts and the actor is willing to go to any lengths to promote his films, even if it needs him to shave his head for a film like Ghajini. The actor who believes in challenging his own capabilities recently outdid himself. This time, Aamir decided to laugh at himself.For his next production, Peepli Live, directed by Anusha Rizvi, which happens to be a satirical film on the growing number of farmer suicides, Aamir has created a special 45-second teaser, to play at cinema halls and on television, which actually makes fun of his own promotional tactics.
Our source said, "Aamir had earlier taken a dig at Shah Rukh Khan when he made all ushers at various cinema halls get the famous Ghajini hair cut around the release of the SRK starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. He also made fun of Salman Khan through the song Pappu can't dance saala in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa. Now, for his film Peepli Live he is taking a dig at himself.
The teaser of the film has a journalist saying that Aamir Khan's next film is the story of a farmer called Natha. But Natha's village, Peepli sells edibles like groundnuts and chips which are packaged with Aamir Khan's photograph printed on them. The photograph used has Aamir sporting his earlier Ghajini look.
The teaser thus is a satirical attempt at saying that Aamir is making a film on a village and promoting it by selling groundnuts by his own name. Sure enough, the teaser ends with the journalist turning to the camera and saying, 'Aamir seems to have gone mad. Just because his film Peepli Live is based on a village, he thinks it will be a hit. Not every film based on a village is a Lagaan."
The source further said, "When the promos run in the theatres, starting this Friday, no one will know that it was a promo for Peepli Live as it deliberately has no mention of the film. Aamir is surely gambling with this idea. However, it is also a smart way to say that the film is an Aamir Khan film even if he himself is not a part of it."
