the irtuals are very important. if one does not want to follow them dont but y should there be a need to oppose some harmless rituals. indians are the most charitable people. we worship each and everything in this world. and we also do charity. doing charity does not mean that we should ourselves start living in a hut just bcoz many people r homeless in this world.
charity means giving away the surplus. now what is surplus is once own prerogative. as it is charity done in a heartless manner is not fruitful.

i think any ritual which is not discriminating, unlawful or harmful to anyone should not be opposed.

I guess I was brain dead.

I need a day off for it. 😆

Could you please explain the importance of the rituals. I am curious to know. 😊

What are the rituals. How did they originate. Why they are important. Why you and others believe in them. What is the significance and what purpose they serve.

I'm not against rituals. I merely find them archaic and unnecessary, and feel there are better options. If people want to perform rituals, its their choice and they have the right too. But maybe you can explain the ritual aspect of it so I can understand why people consider them so important.

not everything is done which is necessary. otherwise people wont spend hours on IF. Its necessary to worship your ancestors so that they keep bestowing their blessings on us. these rituals are done not only in india but also in other countries and cultures. otheriwise y would people celebrate halloween. y not contemplate not celebrating it and spending that much money on poor. y celebrate x mas too? spend all that money on poor people.
If we dont know reason for performing a certain ritual then we should try to find it out instead of straightway shoving them away as unnecessary.

If may not be necessary, but I know reasons and explanations for it. It serves a purpose of a break from everyday. Its a mean to socialize/discuss whatever. There are people, there are interactions and reactions. So it makes sense. Its concrete. It does not appear abstract like rituals that are being followed - but no explanations really.

You are Indian, so I am asking about Indian rituals. If you were of another religion or country - I would ask about those rituals and customs.

@bold that is exactly what I am trying to do, but I don't seem to be finding too many answers or explanations. For me everything I do has to have reasons and explanations. If they don't make sense I don't. No one has given me good reason or explanation for rituals yet. But as I said, its people's choice - as long as it does not harm anyone.

All these rituals are performed to keep the soul in peace. On "No Moon" days, water is offered to quench the thirst of the soul.

But tell me, if one cannot keep a person happy during his life . What sense will it make even if he strictly performs these rituals or whatever after the person dies.

I love customs and traditons of all races and religions.
English have their all souls day and the Chinese too have theirs around the month of August etc.
May all the souls rest in peace.

but how can you say something is unnecessary when you dont even know the reason behind doing it? u r not an indian, so do u know the reason behind celebrating halloween?

P.S.- WE indians dont do everything for a reason. we do somethings sorry many things just like that also, including charity.
