Supposing , its declared a tie- what next?Imagine a round of 33 or 17 !
Simply said, a tie wouldn't be a practical solution.
As regards talking about sports like soccer, hockey and cricket- many a times even when one team dominates the other for the entire match, it turns out to be a draw.đ
Don't know how many Tennis fans (are you sure you're one of them??đ) we have on the forum but for those of you who keep track of sports or even read the news regularly would probably have atleast heard of the record breaking tennis match between Isner (USA) vs. Mahut (France). For those who haven't heard/read of it here's some background...
The match started on Wednesday and went on for a record breaking 10 plus hours since the game (last set) can only be won with a lead of two points (games) and both Isner and Mahut kept equaling it out. It was getting too dark for the game to be played and was halted for the day to be resumed early thursday morning. On Thursday after winning one set each and 6 games each in the fifth set Isner finally beat Mahut 70-68.Mahut had clearly proved that he was no less than Isner when it came to playing this sport. Why was the match not declared a tie? After playing for 10 hours to not be able to advance to the next round is quiet disappointing. In Soccer or hockey or cricket we see if both teams fare equally they both get a point each (Wimbledon is a knockout tournament). Is the sport of Tennis flawed in the way its rules have been set then??Any thoughts?
