And yeah, Debo was a clear winner there. He sang superb.
It was NOT a one episode contest...there were few initial rounds and then semifinals and finals. Each episode had at least 3 rounds, may be 4...And judges were Pt Jasraj, Biddu, Chitra and also JAtin-Lalit. I forgot the other judges, sorry.

In the challenge, when Ismail chose Nihira and Debo to perform 1st in the 1st round, HR remarked "Yeh dono to clearly is challenge ki best hain".

Debo, however, failed to carry the same standard set by himself in the initial rounds of the challenge, but picked up towards the end. And what a pick up it was!!!

I am also a DEBU fan.But we can't deny this fact that vinit at that time was not as good as today.He has improved a lot was definitely consistent.He is just 17.At that time i prayed for him .
But today the best and most versatile singer is DEBOJIT.
No doubt about that.But I feel sad for him,coz even after winning the conttst people think that he Won just coz of assam votes.Although he truely deserve to be india ki voice.I want to convey this message to all the music director.He is the best .Infact all the 12 challangers in saregamapa deserve to be recocognised as Playback singer.But yaa vinit is not bad either. I am from rajasthan And voted for debu so many time.

Thanks, I remember. I'd just subscribed to ZeeTV (I'm in CA) and must've caught the tail end of Fame 2005.

Haven't found a video yet. Will post here if I find one.

I also remember Pt. Jasraj berating someone (Biddu?) for harping on "apni aawaz mein gaao". His response was something like "sub nakal karte hain, pehle nakal karke to naam banane do, phir apni pehchan bhi banegi". He made a similar remark later in a Challenge 2005 episode.
