The way Geet stood up for herself - πππ The way she got the guts to push Brij back- that was freakin AMAZING! A female who has been crushed since her childhood, who has suffered so much, who had just narrowly escaped death, stood up to her own blood relations - not even sparing her parents who stood by crying umpteen tears while her death sentence was being pronounced. The way she told Daarji that it was she who was disowning them and not him her. The way she said that from now on she wasn't Geet Handa anymore, she was just Geet - the mother of the child who was growing inside her. The way she decided to lead her life on her own terms from now on, and raise her child on her own as well. The way she got Brij arrested for all the heinous crimes he had committed so far, and really showed all of them who considered her just another female who can be oppressed easily, that SHE is who a woman should be - A loving daughter, sister and grand-daughter ONLY as long as they treat her as such. One who wouldn't compromise with her self-respect. The moment the Handa family let her be led to her death, they were as good as dead to her. A fragile ethereal girl standing up for herself is bloody commendable! βοΈ
THIS is what a show should be! Inspiring, empowering and all consuming the senses of the viewer. Igniting the fire in them, telling them to stand on their own feet and fight injustice rather than cry demure tears like the goody goody bahus we see on Indian Telly. Geet wouldn't let a person walk all over, trampling over her pride and self respect. Geet wouldn't stand by while a helpless husband is unable to shake off the advances of an amorous "other" woman. She would ask him to be a man or escort him politely to the door. Geet wouldn't let herself be led like a lamb to its slaughter on the name of "fake" honour. She knows how to stand on her own feet and fight for the rights that are her own since the day she was born!
I salute the CVs for providing us with such an inspirational show that I'm sure would show the way to hundreds of women who have let themselves be caught in the web of honour and deceit, thanks to the attitudes of their own family members. Geet was right when she said that she was disowning her family, even her parents because they are a part of the mindset which condemns a daughter to bear the burden of antiquated traditions and be slaughtered in the name of honour by her own kin relations. Today, I'm proud. I'm proud of the minds who worked to create this show, of Drashti Dhami who portrayed the fragile yet made of an iron will character - Geet, of myself - for being born a female, of INDIA - where such females are born and inspire the rest of them to raise their voice against injustice.
I salute the creatives of Geet - Hui Sabse Parayi! βοΈ
