Sveta Salve talks to indya.com exclusively about her current project - Yeh Dil Chahe More. Know more about this glam doll of Indian television.
How did you get the role in Yeh Dil Chahe More?
The production thought I suit the role, they called me, I liked the fact that this was a cameo, so for short time, I thought it was good to experiment.
What's your character like in Yeh Dil Chahe More?
I play an evil, wicked step-mom-to-be character who plans to separate the father and his loving children and win over all the money and property. Maya Moolchandani is diplomatic and sophisticated. The role is very different from the ones I have played till date.
The role of Maya Moolchandani seems to be off-beat from the positive women that you have portrayed till today, how was it to be 'Maya'?
Yes, it is quite different. I think I have a very stereotype, tried and tested kind of face, which wins me roles that are positive. So this cameo in Yeh Dil Chahe More was a challenge.
How was it to work with Mukul Dev?
Interesting. I have not acted with Mukul before this, I was part of The Fear Factor, a show on Sony, it was different there. We got along well, it was good.
How was the experience of working with the kids in Yeh Dil Chahe More?
It is a very challenging role for me as I am very fond of kids. I have been a favourite baby-sitter always. To be rude to the kids on screen was a different experience. But shooting was fun, I even took my pet dog along one day, it was lots of fun.
You are known for your dressing style, what do we get to see in Yeh Dil Chahe More?
I think I wear some three sarees all together, here (laughs). They are just shiffon sarees with lots of brocade work on the blouse. It is nothing out of the world, I think it just depends on how one carries what they wear.
Even my make up is simple, there are no longer than the forehead bindis or I have not splashed colours on my face to show how grey the character is. It is simple and it is real. I wear a lot of Victorian jewellery with many cut diamonds - The look is very classy and sophisticated.
Yeh Dil Chahe More is about striving to make ones dreams into reality? Have you succeeded in doing so in real life?
I think I am in the process of fulfilling my dream of being successful in whatever I do, that is to have a secured life.
What did you dream of becoming, as a kid?
I, like many other kids had a new dream every passing day, I just made it my dream to excel in whatever I did.
Which was your first project in the industry? How was it to face the camera for the very first time?
It was a show on Sony a long while back, it was called Jane Kahan Mera Jigar. I was very used to being on stage, I am a trained Hindustani Classical singer, so there was no fear as such, it went well.
How has the experience of being in the Glam world been?
Good! I never wished to be part of this industry, so I took one day at a time. All the good and bad come as a package deal. It has been an interesting experience. I do not have any regrets.
We see you in most party circuits? Do you like being a regular Page-3 personality?
I think being in parties today is an occupational hazard of this industry. One has to be connected, we can't say no if a friend calls for example, even if we spend half an hour there, we have got to be at most of the parties. Personally, I enjoy calling a few friends over, cook for them and relax.
You land with urban-independent kind of women characters always, would you like to experiment otherwise?
Yes, I think it is thanks to the two characters that I played in Lipstick and Kitty Party. They are the reason why I get that kind of role. Lipstick was great and according to me Kitty Party was ahead of its times. Desperate Housewives came now. It was about this set of married women and the issues they face.
I would like to believe the makers of the current show were inspired by the show. I am proud of having been a part of Kitty Party. And yes, I would like to play de-glam roles too.
Kitty Party was great shooting, it was a mostly women cast and it surprised every one on how this bouquet of women actually got along. But we did, and it was great fun.
