Hello everyone! π Some of you may remember me from my previous post regarding
Krishna's character. π Okay so for some people who have questioned me. I'd like to verify that yes I am a psychology student so do not fear! I am not getting all these information merely from the top of my head! π Basically I have read a few posts in which people do not know whether Krishna actually loves Pratigya. Truth to be told I don't know either! So this post isn't going to explain whether he loves her or not. It is just a psychological prediction!
Krishna and Pratigya's relationship
Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction. - Antoine de Saint.
In Krishna and Pratigya's first meeting, Krishna is shown as to being mesmerized by Pratigya. He cannot keep his eyes off her as he gazes consistently at her. He is spell bounded by her 'beauty' and thus declares that he has fallen in love.
I ask you, is that really love? Notions of 'love at first sight' is very often confused by the overpowering emotion of 'lust'! Now lust is more of a physical and sexual drive. According to what is being displayed. Krishna experienced 'lust at first sight' in which he is more physically aware of the partner in terms of their outer appearance.
After lust, the second stage is attraction. This stage includes increased energy, focused attention, obsessive following, a sense of possessiveness and the intrinsic motivation to win their partner. Similarly Krishna's obsession with Pratigya is due to his attraction for her. His attention was entirely absorbed in her, he was possessive (ie nitin) and he had the need to win Pratigya! Physical attraction is another contributing factor. Langlois et al. 2000) stated that physical attraction is more predominantly based on the 'outer beauty'. So if an individual is considered as ideally attractive, then they receive higher competence ratings. If you can recall, Krishna was staring at her because of his physical attraction for her! Basically her looks captured his attention and through that he thought he was in love.
So far we have come to the following conclusion that initially Krishna's feelings for Pratigya involved lust and attraction. These two emotions are part of the Three brain systems of love. Each brain systems are associated with diverse feelings and behaviors. The third one is 'attachment'. This term is equivalent to companionate love. This emotion incorporates feelings of calmness, security, comfort and an emotional union with the partner. However Krishna has not obtained that sense of emotion as of yet! He is constantly insecure and nor is there any comfort within their relationship.Example, when Krishna reacts violently and possessively when Pratigya shakes hands with a man. There is no emotional union with Pratigya and he has not attained a sense of calmness.
So what does this tell you? ...
This shows that although Krishna has experienced two of three brain systems of love. The third and most important aspect is missing. This is not denying his love or questioning it. However this proves that his feelings for Pratigya is yet to be fully developed. He is in the progress of experiencing various conflicting emotions but has yet to experience feelings of 'attachment'.
Reciprocity
Reciprocating love or likeness. Reciprocity is another driving factor which may have increased Krishna's attraction towards Pratigya. Kenny and la Voie (1982) highlights that in most cases, when an individual believes that a certain person likes them, then they also either start liking them back or there feelings intensify. Similarly, Krishna had the misconception that Pratigya also 'loved' him and so that motivated him and increased his feelings towards her.
Aron & Westbay's (1996) Three categories of love
- Passion - sexual passion and desire.
- Intimacy - honesty and understanding.
- Commitment - devotion and sacrifice
Romantic rejection
Lewis, Amini and Lannon (2000) divides romantic rejection into two general phases. Protest and resignation/despair. During the protest phase, rejected lovers express intense energy and extreme motivation to win their love back. This can be seen in the honeymoon scene where Krishna is eager to show to the world, how much he 'loves' Pratigya. Example, wearing a shirt with her picture, shouting on a cliff his love for her. Forcefully making her admit that she loves him too. This can be seen as his response to rejection. He is desperate to win back their so called 'love'.
The protest phase also incorporates the ' frustration attraction' theory. This is the process whereby rejected lovers begin to love their rejecting partner even more passionately (Fisher 2004) As you can see Pratigya's rejection did nothing but increase Krishna's advances even more!
Also during the protest phase, rejected lovers experience 'abandonment rage' (Meloy 1998, 1999). This is where Krishna had placed his hands on Pratigya's throat both in their marriage night and in the honeymoon scene. Krishna experiences feelings of anger and rage due to being rejected.
The resignation phase we have yet to see and hopefully wont
Conclusion
The psychological analysis concluded that Krishna's feelings have not yet fully developed as feelings of attachment is still lacking. We can say that at first he lusted for her, then the lust developed into attraction. We have yet to see how attraction actually turns into love when Krishna finally feels secure and starts to understand Pratigya.
I am not trying to encourage you all to change your views. Once again the way you interpret his feelings are totally your own opinion! π Just wanted to share this analysis with you π³π and press the 'like' button if you liked it, or didn't like it π. Even if you didn't like it, this did take me more than an hour to do because i did happen to gather evidence from sources!
Peace! xoxo so do comment whatever you want!
