Himesh irritates neighbors

Singer-turned-actor Himesh Reshammiya had neighbors in his building, Oberoi Sky Heights at Lokhandwala, almost begging for mercy when he started playing songs from his flop film Radio right through the night at full volume.

Apparently just a few days before Radio released, Himesh, who stays on the 35th floor of B-Wing of Oberoi Sky Heights, would play the songs of the film from midnight to the early hours of the morning, on an everyday basis.

Worse, he would play the same song - Mann ka radio bajne de zara - irritating he neighbors even further. The brunt of the noise pollution was borne by the Jain family, which stays just below him on the 34th floor. Says a source from the building, "At times, we were not able to comprehend if Himesh was playing the song or singing it himself. He would sometimes play another song from the same film - as loudly - in the afternoon as well."

After putting up with it for a few days, Mrs Jain and some of her friends who live in the same building, thought of writing an official letter of complaint, but later decided to just have a word with the building-in-charge instead.

But Himesh reportedly continued with his obsession of loudly playing Radio songs, much to the chagrin of the helpless neighbors. While Himesh denied the allegation, Mrs Mrs Jain told Mumbai Mirror, "The music coming from Himesh's flat in the night was very disturbing." Actor Sahil Khan, who stays on the 33rd floor also confirmed, "I heard there was a problem between the Jains and Himesh because of the loud music from Himesh's flat."

The midnight drama continued until Radio hit the theaters and sank. That must have awakened Himesh to the fact that perhaps people didn't like the film and its music as much as he thought they would. A stunned silence ensued and Reshammiya's neighbors finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The winners of every award function are the view point of 5-10 jury members who can not represent the whole country. 10 people will say Udit Narayan deserves the award, 10 others will say that Sonu Nigam deserves it. Take a recent example of Javed Ali whose two songs (Guzarish and Jashn-e-bahara) were so popular in that particular year. Forget about winning he didn't even get nominated in Screens and Filmfare. He won an IIFA. So as I said different jury different view point. Nowadays every channel has its own set of awards which leads to almost so many singers winning an award.
Then there is a case of favoritism also. If we all have our own favorites then why can't the jury also have their own.
Yes the people who win award are deserving but then there are equally deserving people who don't win it.
Nominating just 5-6 singers is an impossible task.

The only awards I respect are the National Awards because they tend to deliver deserving winners.

The concept of awards for 'best singing/music/lyrics/acting/direction' is flawed, especially in music, because there can never be an objective 'best' when there are so many people doing great work. In India, film music is doing so well and lots of people are creating awesome music. So you can never have one item that everybody can agree on...

But, you can have deserving winners. Sure, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', for which Alka Yagnik got a National Award may not have been THE best sung song in India that year, but you can definitely see that the performance is very credible.

I have found that the National Awards are quite reputable therefore. Indeed, there are some anomalies, like when Udit Narayan got the award for 'Zindagi Khoobsurat Hai' in 2002, when there were more deserving and prominent songs around... But since that was just an anomaly and not the overwhelming trend, I'll forgive it.

I think the National Award is clearly a great achievement. It definitely rewards merit and popularity - which is what singers look for.

However, there are certainly some singers who are at a disadvantage in this case. Certain singers, who have the right voice quality and training, can sing for regional films. So a singer like Sunidhi Chauhan, who has a husky voice and no classical training, cannot sing much for regional films. But a singer like Shreya Ghoshal, who is classically trained and has the stereotypical sweet voice, can get singing offers from all over the country - Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayam etc. So Shreya has an advantage when it comes to awards, since she has more songs in total, which are classically based (and classically based songs tend to be more difficult, too...)

In a nutshell, the National Awards are a very prestigious achievement and CAN make a difference to a singer's career. However, a singer without National Awards MAY still be a great singer. The only foolproof test for that is your EARS!

I don't like to make allegations of bribery because I have no evidence go prove anybody's guilt.
