Note:

Though KS Chitra started singing in the 80s and was very popular throughout the 80s in the south, this was her 1st hindi song, which is what this contest is about, and it was sung in 1991. From there, her career in bollywood started.

I loved Chitra's voice in this song particularly. Sweet, melodious and totally suited to Revathi's young voice. Her voice totally complimented SP Balasubramaniyam's voice and overall this song is quite memorable for them both 👍🏼. I give her a 9 😊

Her voice was also kinda on and off. Her strengths were the high notes but she didn't sound confident on the lower ones. They were shaky almost each time. But the quality, man, was damn good. The quality was evident of classical training. I didn't feel the connection between the male and the female singer somehow though. If there was something called a 7.5, I'd give her that, but since there isn't, I'll give her the benfit of doubt and give her an 8.

First of all my sincere respect to Chitra ji, all her fans, and all those that have trained her in the past and made her who she is today. I do not mean to offend anyone with my ratings. And honestly I am no one to rate her, yet since this is a fun game I will do so.

Chitra ji, no doubt is a terrific singer. In this song she was very melodious and had a very sweet voice. She def knows about taal, raag, and sargam. Yet there were parts in the song that I thought she could have improved in. I think her voice needed a bit more of maturation in it. But since then she has come a long way.

So taking everything in to consideration, I'd come up with a final rating of 7.

I'll start my rating journey by saying

Jai Matadi!
Jai Hindustan!

Great singing by K.S. Chitra here!

She has great voice quality that's for sure. Her voice also has great clarity and I think she fits the legend label. Also, overall, in her song she had some great voice control. For example, near the end of the first verse how she says, "pyaaaar", really goes to show some of her singing ability, and she does this prolonging words and showing her talent and amazing voice control quite often throughout the song.

Overall, with no flaws according to me, the song didn't look that difficult, it was because she made it look so easy. Her voice control and clarity was just exceptional throughout the song. Just mindblowing in that aspect. So great job.

Wow what a boring song - laborious melody and insipid lyrics!

I don't think there was much to do in this song for Chitra. It wasn't too difficult a tune. I will give her extra credit for the 'sanammmm' part, though - very well done, especially since doing such variations on consonant sounds is no mean task - it requires a lot of riyaaz!

I'm not too impressed with her diction, however. 'Dil', 'main' and 'basanti' were not well pronounced IMHO. SPB did a comparatively excellent job in the diction department.

And now the subjectivity of music comes into play, since one of the most offputting things about Chitra's vocals for me is the nasal twang. I just don't like the sound of extra nasality and it acts to impede the effect of any given song in my book.

So it's a 7 from me!

People are really overlooking the amazing voice control she had throughout the song. Oh well.

Of course everytime we see "boring song" line from xobile, it means it will automatically have not a high rating. Even though how much you like the song should have nothing to do with the singing. Coincidence everytime? Hmmm.

Not true, not true... I don't like 'Ruki Ruki' much either but I didn't downgrade that singer. And I liked 'Rabba Rabba' but didn't translate that into much for that singer. Ssk, you'll just have to forget these conspiracy theories and accept that coincidences occur!

Anyway... the only thing that made this song 4 (below average) to 7 (quite above average) is that voice control she displayed throughout the song. So I don't think people are overlooking it. 😉

But of course you are so obsessed with hating on Himesh that you are starting to hear nasal tunes from other singers too. 😆
