Four-year-old Ananya Kurup, known to her loved ones as Shankari, is no ordinary child. At such a young age, she is an ace Bharatnatyam dancer.
She already has 28 stage performances to her credit and is aiming for a Guinness record for the youngest classical dancer. A Junior KG student of Presentation Convent School, Nerul, Ananya started dancing when she was just a baby and literally one year old. She resides in Nerul , New Mumbai. Her Mother recalls her wearing "ghungroos" whilst sleeping when she was barely of 1 year age.
She was only two years old when she gave her first stage performance at Ayyappa Temple in CBD Belapur, New Mumbai. It was five months ago in August 2009 that Ananya's formal training started under Guru Sushma Gopinath, who is Pravitha's guru as well. Says Gopinath : "In my 22 years of teaching experience, I have never come across such a gifted child. Dancing is in her blood." Reveals Gopinath, "I have to show a step just once and she picks it up. Warnam, a dance that takes months to learn, she learnt in ten days." The confidence guru says, "Children start dancing at the age of 5 and at 11 years they go for Arengatram, a sort of graduation in dance." "This child has already learnt all the 10 dance items required for it. I think she can do it next year itself." Her parents have never forced her to learn or practise this dance , it's her passion and inborn talent which is the reason she performs each and every step with grace and love.
While everyone is going gaga over her classical performances, Ananya is an ardent Shah Rukh Khan fan. "I like him. He is my favourite," announces Ananya who is an expert at non classical dance as well. She aims to become a doctor and is an ace in studies . Her dance performances have been well appreciated by Guardian Minister Sh.Ganesh Naik and father of ace dancer Sudha Chandran, D.K. Chandran
