I came across the story of Laila & Majnu and it reminded me of AR
this is the intro to the story

Love is a delirious passion! And nowhere is it better witnessed than in the tragic tale of Laila and Majnu. A tale of a man whose yearning for his lady love cost his sanity. A tale of a woman whose longing for her lover was the cause of her death. A tale of two lovers who could never live without each other. Go through this timeless tale of love.

the part in red just speaks for AR...armaan who lost his sanity for ridz...and riddhima who will keep longing for armaan.....they can't live without eachother...no matter what

maybe they will both have the same fate as LailaMajnu and reunite in heaven

They have many adaptations of it. But the original is Persian, and in that Majnu goes so crazy that once when Laila appears before him he thinks that its a hallucination and runs away from there. Near the end the guy was more in love with the concept of being in love than Laila.
