SRGMP has reallyl opened my eyes to Indian mentality and regionalism. Even though we became independent 58 years ago, we still havent changed much. If there are so many regional feelings for a stupid contest, I cannot imagine what would happen for bigger issues.

People like HR are not helping either. I think programs like this should be banned by Govt where it brings up this much of regionalistic feelings.

It has become a regional popularity contest as opposed to a music talent contest. It is disgusting and I dont think you will find this anywhere else in the world. I understand that public may be swayed a little by these feelings, but organisers, producers, so called mentors are feeding into this frenzy is really disgusting.

We living in USA look forward to Indian music, Indian culture and want our children to learn from it, and I am ashamed now to let my children watch these programs.

Sorry to say this.

You are just realising the extreme that regionalism plays in the Indian culture and lifestyle?
These feelings will not be dissolved over night; they are far too ingrained the psyche of a majority of the population.
Government banning would be an extreme action. You might as well ban the government itself, if you have problems with regionalism in our lives.
By the way, as a resident of America, I have noticed several examples of regionalism here as well. Hurricane Katrina released both a feeling of good will and "regionalism." The concept is present in all cultures and countries. It's just more noticible in India as we are more emotionally attached to it.

And you think a knee jerk reaction like that would solve this?

It is something to do with responsibility, if in the US some TV program were to say bad things about people from Iowa or a Michigan, what would happen? There would be a huge FCC fine, The network/TV channel would be afraid of getting sponsors pulled due to the public outcry. In the short run the TV channel would get TRP's hiked up, but in the long run the fines and the sponsor withdrawal would really hurt the Channel, so noone would dare a stunt like that, in fact if a channel over here had contestants walk out, they would get sued for a million bucks, no apology accepted

Over here in India

Do

AS/HR feel responsible or do they apologize for their actions? No

Does SRGMP C2005/GS apologize for this? No

Does Zee TV apologize about it? No

Do MP's/State Govt of N.E states make an issue out of it? No

Do people N.E India care about this? No(If they would have cared their govt's and MP's would have taken a notice), but yes some guy uses this issue to get himself elected the voice of India based upon all this

so as you see noone cares, but there is someone benefitting from this

like a Zee TV got good TRP's, AS/HR got their face time on TV, GS makes all the money, sponsors make money, maybe Debo wins the contest(even if Vineet wins, is he not getting regional votes?)

As long as people benefit, it does not matter whether the country loses, and that in a nutshell is Democracy in India

Just my (slanted) POV, you can have yours

I know I am sounding extreme when I say to ban things.
It is true that in USA they have it too, but that is a known fact for centuries, but I thought our culture was much more than that. It saddens me and so wanted to express it. NO offence really.
But on a positive note, here in America, If feel that we are much more united and have wonderful gatherings and pretty much enjoy anything Indian, music, dance, movie, people etc. I guess people realise worth of things when they dont have it or if it is scarce.

"can we all get along".-Rodney King.USA.

People It's only a show to promote some singers. Good ones. Indian Idol has the same thing. Good singer are getting voted out. Good old Debo has improved since he sang 3 weeks ago. So give him a chance even though I didn't vote for him.

Sorry to even post to ignorant people like you. My kids have faced racism here and I thought it is different in India since it is Sare Jahan se Accha. But I think you are enlightening me by saying that it is all the same. Thanks for that

I don't think the point was to discuss US culture, racism or US music..
Come on people, lets see the positive in things..
Why argue over the issues in US? People in US can worry about that...

Lets try to think about how a small thing like regionalism can affect us all.. Regionalism in a situation like this.. We are all ready to bash each other up based on the territory that we belong to.. Should we all not be united and look for India ki voice.. We dont even need people like HR or politicians to create differences between us.. It seems as if we all have these feelings inside of us.. and an issue like this is just an excuse for us to bring out our frustrations..

For me, SRGMP has been an eye opener.. I tried to learn something good out of each and every contestant.. I am not a singer, so I learnt non-musical stuff..
Half the contestants are younger than me.. But I learnt something, or I was touched by some of their acts.. By all of them..
I dont know if my post even makes any sense anymore.. Seems like I rambled on 😊
