Madonna on Mend from Grammy Hernia

Forget confessions, it's contortions on the dance floor that briefly laid up Madonna. The Material One required a surgical tune-up following her extreme gyrations during her Grammy Award ceremony opening duet with the 'toon band the Gorillaz on Feb. 8. "She had a minor procedure for a hernia and is absolutely fine now," the singer's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said. No further details were given.

According to WebMD.com, a hernia occurs when a tear forms in the abdomen muscles and can lead to part of the stomach or intestine bulging through the hole. It is a common condition that can be exacerbated by strenuous activity and can strike regardless of one's physical fitness

The New York Post reported that the 47-year-old Confessions on a Dancefloor diva was taken to Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Medical Center for the surgery. The newspaper said she was "pale and had no appetite" post-op.

But within two days, she was reportedly back at the Kabbalah Center. And on Wednesday, just a week after the surgery, she seemed to be in fighting form at London's Brit Awards.
The mother of reinvention attended the ceremony with her director husband Guy Ritchie. She was named the Best International Female Artist of the Year, and she later presented the Best Album statuette to Coldplay.

The hernia operation marks the second time she's been to the ER in the past year. Last August, the mother of two suffered three cracked ribs, a broken collar bone and a broken hand after falling off a horse at her English country estate on her birthday.

As expected, she has since made a full recovery.
