Am I the only one who thinks Poonam is right?

She is 'rude' but bang on...!

I think this family NEEDS someone like her who will call spade a spade rather than butter Jyoti up.

I loved the way she showed the debt guy the door. It was awesome to see Jyoti's face. Someone was right there snatching her 'greatness' away. Poor Jyoti. She was saved from some torture and THAT would be sheer torture for Jyoti. 🤢

I also love the way she rubs Sushma on the wrong side. Sushma is a ridiculous idiot with a pea sized brain. I am glad someone shows her that she is nothing but &%&^.

I like this Poonam. She is a perfect mirror who shows the Sharmas what they really look like to society!

I'm absolutely thrilled to see someone who agrees w/ me on Poonam!!!

Yeah, I covered all her episodes to date in this thread. Yeah, she had a rough start, w/ the room, and then she did screw up badly the time she questioned Deepu's funding Sushma's medication, and then calling Jyoti a step-sister. But other than that, I don't find fault w/ much she's done. Yeah, she would have done well not to ask for Jyoti's room, or snatch KK's newspaper, or threaten to walk out when asked to cook everybody's meal, but other than that, she's been adjusting well.

Let's recap some of the things she's been 'guilty' of:
  1. Her resentment @ Jyoti for not turning up @ her wedding, and then being the reason it was almost held up, dishonoring the sentiments of her own family. I hold Jyoti completely @ fault on this for trying to force Sudha's attendence here.
  2. The sari. Not only was she unaware of this really arcane custom, but she did compromise and offer Sushma an alternative, which the latter wasn't willing to take. Obviously, she was upset @ that.
  3. On the day before Holi, when Poonam was learning to cook, Sushma needlessly passed a snide remark about her, provoking Padma to order her to finish the cooking.
  4. On Holi itself, I do blame Poonam for bad-mouthing Sushma in front of her friends
  5. After getting home, Poonam wasn't to blame - here is Jyoti being asked to do something bordering illegal, and so Poonam suggests that she collect the price for it, and at least get all the financial problems of the family out of the way. For Sushma, it's mocking their poverty, but most people would regard Poonam's suggestion as very practical
  6. After being lectured by Jyoti, she reacted badly and wanted to storm out, until Padma stopped her. Yeah, here Poonam was being immature.
  7. The cosmetics - fully agree w/ Poonam. She was home, and Sushma had no business using it w/o her permission - Padma was right, for the right reasons stated in front of Poonam, and the wrong reasons stated behind her back
  8. When Dadi is preparing some snacks, Poonam recalls how it was @ home when her servants made them, and how she used to play w/ them. This was pretty innocuous, and wasn't offensive to anyone - she was just sharing some childhood memories. Yet, Sushma chose to take offense here. No reason.
  9. The questions she asked Jyoti in wake of her divorce hearing were perfectly reasonable. Jyoti left so many unanswered questions that in public, her relatives would be @ a loss to defend her, given what's available for the public to conclude.
  10. Poonam decides not to attend a friends b'day to avoid the embarrassment of both questions about Jyoti that may arise, as well as Sushma's condition. For being this thoughtful, she is lectured by Jyoti, and sent there notwithstanding w/ Deepu
  11. They have a nice evening, where no questions about Jyoti come up, since nobody there reads the paper, and her dear hubby is bitching about it that her friends don't read papers. Hey, Deepu, thanks to them being hooked on playstations, you didn't need to be embarrassed.
So sorry, in most of the above cases above, I firmly agree w/ Poonam. Like you said, she holds to this dysfunctional family a societal mirror, and they are too thick-headed to take it. Usually, she gets glares from KK and Dadi, and nothing but disrespect and disdain from Sushma. Yet, she's been adjusting remarkably well.

And I agree w/ you on the above - last night, she showed Jyoti what is izzat and what isn't by paying off the creditor on the spot, and once she did it, she had the moral high ground to show him the door. In fact, after that, when the seth-ji was criticizing Jyoti for not paying up despite having the cash, she saved Jyoti from further embarrassment by telling him to get lost. Nobody in the family, except her dear saas Padma, acknowledged what she did for the family izzat. Dadi persisted in backing up Jyoti's question on the source of that money, and Jyoti like a total idiot tells her that she should only be spending it on herself & Deepu. Hey, Jyoti, in that case, why don't you spend all your salary on just yourself?

Poonam gave Jyoti the correct response - that since this is her family, their problems are hers as well. Deepu too backed her decision to pay this off, and Jyoti was left completely embarrassed. I'm still trying to figure out what KK thought - when he looked @ Deepu, I just couldn't make from his facial expression whether he agreed or disagreed.

At any rate, bottom line - in the Sharma family, Poonam seems to be the only one w/ a brain.

i actually totally agree wid u..she may act like a brat at times bt for sum1 coming from a rich family she has adjusted really well in the sharma household..her comments at sushma at the holi bash and after the sethji left were tacky bt otherwise she has made a lot more sense than the rest of the family put together..esp wid the alimony part..here they are struggling to pay off a couple thousand bucks to creditors, money which by law is pretty much jyoti's right (i think, correct me if am wrong) would have really helped the family, esp wid two kids coming..

She is practical than any1 in the sharmas. But her choice of words don't sound pleasing at all. The sharmas can't handle her attitude especially KK n jyoti coz they r pepl built of mahan adarsh n usool – the 2 sacrificing philosophers of the sharma parivaar… LOL!😆🤣

Dadi can't stand her as her traditional attitude can't match poonam's modern attitude. Sandeep… I have no idea! Padma…she's madly in luv with her DIL. Sushi…poor girl finding it too difficult 2 adjust with her so-called bhabi. 😕

Poonam is more practical rather than being mature. The main problem with her is she just speaks out her mind at any time. She doesn't care whether it's the correct time or situation 2 say that. What's in her mind just comes out without any delay

Like she was yesterday when she bailed out Jyoti, Poonam again made sense today, and Deepu again was his stubborn self.

Sushma's medical expenses are Rs16k, and Jyoti is @ a loss to take any advance. So Deepu tells her not to shoulder the entire burden herself, and that he would take an advance from his office and support it. Poonam tells him that his reputation will be ruined if he keeps taking advances, and suggests that she take cash from her dad. This rubs Deepu the wrong way, and Poonam confronts him and asks him how is his solution better than what she is offering. He leaves in disgust.

By the end of the show, Sudha is left bailing them all out. So the Sharmas can't borrow/take money from the Trivedis, w/ whom they still have a good relationship, but they can take money from the Vashisths, whom they loathe. Someone explain that to me again? Although I don't like CM, I wouldn't mind her rubbing it in that the Sharma's managed to get that parasite daughter of theirs, whose identity they concealed from them, treated due to this same family underwriting her medical bills.

Almost all members of this dysfunctional family seem demented, and the ones who aren't i.e. married into it, are summarily ignored.
