A Eulogy for Mayank and Nupur!

Ambrose Bierce, an eminent American journalist and writer describes a eulogy thus:

"Eulogy: Praise of a person who has either the advantages of wealth and power, or the consideration to be dead"

My aim in this thread is to draw attention to the words that I have highlighted and apply it to the characters of Mayank and Nupur. In lieu of the recent upheavals this forum has witnessed, with regard to the response of MN fans, nay, ex MN fans, I want to make it very clear at the outset that I am merely here to mourn the loss of once vibrant characters that held my absolute attention from October 2008 to March end 2009.

Yes Mayank and Nupur have gone over to the other side, a side that no longer makes sense to a normal human brain! In considering their timely demise (in the world of TV soaps, characters have a shelf life of one year), I would just like to reminisce a bit about these lost characters!

Mayank, a paradox in itself, because he was a COOL NERD! He tolerated the banalities of college life with his customary smirk, his well placed sarcasm and that deadly lift of his eyebrows! A confident male with one goal in mind: to excel at everything in order to make life simpler for his mom! He never felt the inclination to become a part of the gang culture in college and preferred the library to the canteen! He had a childish side to him, a side that was witnessed only by his mom and later Nupur! This was the charm that Mayank held, until he returned from the Ahmedabad trip!

Nupur embodied a volatile burst of energy! She was a drama queen who revelled in her antics, spoke nineteen to the dozen and By God was aware of the effect she had on the opposite sex! A day dreamer and a laid back person who only felt the need to prove herself when challenged! Her street smartness coupled with the fact that she was disarmingly human with flaws, made her connect with the strong fan following the character garnered over a period of time! A protective elder sister, sweet nature d and with adorable nautanki antics, Nupur made us fall in love with her. She even made the viewers look on indulgently at her confidence that she could get away with everything, including lying and making he sister work on her project!

I fondly remember these characters, the former/original Mayank and Nupur! Go on, share your memories of these once beautiful and unique characters! Maybe this would help in the healing process, a process that has come about after lots of begging, betrayal, frustration and ultimate sadness!

I became endeared towards both characters when i saw their interactions with Shilpa Aunty. She subtly brought out their vulnerable childlike innocence, made Mayank view the world with awe!

I miss them so very much!

Thank you for this, sharing always lessens the pain.

EDIT:@pandemonia3 (sorry i don't know your name😳) You have a very beautiful way of expressing yourself, I wonder if I may be as so bold as to ask, would you mind writing a few lines for the tombstone?

My sincere condolenses.. to fellow MN fans...
let us cherish the characters we know as Nupur and Mayank
My fondest memory is when she cares for him even they are enemies... the underlying trust and respect was soo great... even the most introvert was attracted to the sincerity...
that is the bond... those were the days... even a simple pencil in the corner of her mouth was cute... the books in his hand and his dedication to self betterment were impactful....
As filmy as this sounds.... Mayank and Nupur were legendary characters who changed the face of television....

hey taps, sabah and anu soooooooo well said,
i agree anu, i lovedddddddd the caring side of N and in that barn scene, it showed that she trusted M SO much that she doubted herself and not him.
I loveddddd when MN cared for eachother so much while they were enemies like the jungle scenes and later on when N gets hurt by a tiny thorn, M couldn't bear that, that was the love and care for N.
N she doesn't get time from complaining and bossing around to genuinely love and care for M.
MN hardly care for eachother, this makes me question that do they really loveeeeeeeeee eachother, well i don't think so, esp after today i defintely think they don't. MN are better off as enemies then, A mockery has been made of love by this show and its such a pity to see a beautiful emotion portrayed soooooooooo poorly!

Taps, beautifully written ...

That is exactly the Mayank and Nupur for whom I held on to this show till yesterday..Now that they dont exist, I'll reserve some space. here...

EDIT

For me Mayank and Nupur were defined best in this one scene, they had the project related fight, Nupur challenges Mayank to get better marks than him. Every day in class she messes up and doesnt answer her questions properly, then one day, when Shuklajee asks her a question, there is a smug look on his face , she answers the question and looks at him, he is stunned. Shuklaji wants to know if it was by fluke that she answered that question to which he nods his head slightly. She sees this and recites the poem itself to prove she knew the answer not just by fluke.
The looks on their faces. Even there he feels a certain interest in her but then he doesnt want to realise it.

The first barn scene, this is where, they showed a caring Mayank and a Nupur who trusted Mayank.
Adorable and magical this one scene defined their relationship (to me)

There were real and unusual and very different from the usual run-of the mill couples we see on TV.

Will miss these 2..

Thanks once again Taps,

No Condolences for me. What I have liked about MN relationship is their realness n they for me still have it.

Wat?! Evidence says your darling hubby kissed another girl. N gets mad, but she doesn't doubt that he loves only her. Kudos to MN.
M deliberately picking a fight n tripping N, so she will fall on him - that's authentic Mayank trying to woo his Nupur using his brains👍🏼

Beautifully expressed Tapasya 👏 You have an extraordinary way of writing and speaking your mind out. What you've said about both Mayank & Nupur is so very correct, well till yesterday i loved their track, but 16th march has totally ruined it.

What is annoying me more is the MN fans who are giving out their condolensces, i mean what the heck are these condolensces for? MN haven't died, its seriously disgusts when i read such uncalled statement by MN fans themselves, i think you guys are taking it too over the top now, im a harcore/ardent/crazy/loyal MN fan as well, many know and aware of me being so loyal to them since episode 1, but can you guys seriously stop exagerrating this issue now? Everyone should be happy that at least ArTi are still in the show and we are getting to watch them everyday without replacements of any kind, im hurt as well because Mayur's characters are butchered, but giving our condolensces and using the word "demise" is really uncalled for. Its pathetic!

.....me too grief the way 2 most realistic, simple and strong characters were tried to be brutally murdered ...what hurts most is subconsciously we knew it coming and tried a lot to avert the disaster ...to save them...but saddest part infront of our own eyes....we saw them get almost killed ....we witnessed it ...so we in shock and can't help but vent out our sorrow, anger , disappointment here......
my fondest memories of mayank-nupur are really too many to count and now i'm so much choked in grief that i'll find it hard to talk of them all......................
yet i cannot help but remember the most fantastic time i ever had on this show.....the academic meet trip....i loved it to the core.....
no matter how much fights they had .... no matter they considered themselves as enemies ..... but they were the best of the friends for eachother ..... always together ....
the trip gave them the time that helped them know eachother ... understand the other person ...
nupur always knew that she could bank on mayank and he no matter how much she annoyed him never let her go away on her own ....
he knew of his feelings for her and tried too hard to suppress them as they were alien to him .... and she on the other hand though how hard she tried to fit in every guy she knew into - 'her prince' frame...it started and ended with only one guy that is mayank... yet she ignored it...all coz as she herself told him...he is "perfect like god"...... and that was a huge thing to say....
it goes on to say how high she held him in her thoughts .... and for him all her flaws turned to be sweet and adoring....
together they without anyone else's 'gyaan' or pushing made their journey into being a couple ... when guys wear their relationship on their sleeves mayank was one to keep it private only coz he respected his love for her and her too and did not want to slight his love with public display of it ..... nupur on the other hand had her own view point about it ... she wanted to scream at the top of her voice that he is the guy she is in love with yet gets mesmerized by his intensity of feelings and agrees to his way.....

they have been the most charming and intensely in love couple ever to shine on the screen .... and the loss of that spirit will be felt dearly by us who loved them so dearly that the distinction between fiction and real lost its significance to us.... they made it happen coz they were real... they showed every aspect of emotion to us .... it is hard to consider them fiction....
though we are assured that may be a miracle might happen and they will relive the same way again...but i find it hard to believe ..... nothing can bring back what we lost yesterday ....

or do you think there will be any reincarnation in time to come.....?
