Aman Verma's phases of life

Aman Verma, who shot to fame with mega-television shows like Khul Ja Sim Sim, Shanti and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is doing Balaji show Baytaab Dil Kee Tamanna Hai these days. The actor is also doing a Punjabi film Marjawan Ghud Kha Ke. We spoke to the actor about his latest projects and more.

You have come a long way since the infamous sting operation. When you look back, what do you think about the whole episode?
"Its ok for me because I don't have any bad regards for that reporter as she was doing her job and I consider it as a bad episode of my life."

At that time, while a lot of actors like Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, and makers like Pahlaj Nihalani, Raj Kanwar, Sunil Darshan and Ravi Chopra, selflessly came forward in your support, the television industry was conspicuous by its absence.
"Yes at that time, the entire Bollywood industry came in support of me as compared to the TV industry. The uniqueness of the film industry is that they supported me at the time of crisis .."

Does 'Ruchi reporter' (the then-famous reporter who carried out the sting operation) haunt you in your dreams?
"Not really ..."

If you encounter her again, how would you greet her?
"Yes, why not? I want to know what she is doing in her life now. It would be great if I meet her again'"

You seem to share a special bonding with Balaji Telefilms, having done five shows (Ithihaas, Ghar Ek Mandir, Kyunki Saas Mein Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kalash and now Baytaab Dil Ki Tamanna Hai) with them.
"It is always a great pleasure to work with Balaji and Ekta Kapoor. These people are thorough professionals and now again its great pleasure to work with Balaji."

Though, you have played key roles in big movies like Andaz, Baghban and Jaan-e-mann, television has always been your forte. Now that you are back with a bang, is it a conscious decision to concentrate on television?
"Its not my comeback on TV as before this I was there in Sony's Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao...and I was busy with some other projects."

You are also trying your hand at Punjabi cinema, having signed a lead role in a film called Mar Javaan Gud Kha Ke with actress Gunjan Walia. Can you tell us more about the film and your role?
"It's a very good role and I enjoyed working with telly actors Tarun Khanna and Gunjan Walia. My character's name is Prem , a conman with a lot of class and polish; a hustler who thoroughly enjoys his white-collar crime of conning people into paying him huge sums of money, giving them the hope that he can immigrate them to foreign shores. However, when none other than his love interest catches him."

We have always seen you speak impeccable English as well as Hindi. Have you taken any formal training in diction?
"Thanks for the compliment, but for this proper diction I have worked very hard as in my earlier days I used to record my voice and then I used judge myself and in my early days, I wanted to become a reporter and for that I completed by mass communication from Bharti Vidya Bhavan. During that time I also did my training in Urdu and Hindi..."
