Okay so I had this idea of writing this letter to the creative heads? of PR, take a look and let me know what u all think.

Dear Creative (dunno which body part you use to conceptualize these storyline for your shows, it definitely couldn't be your head)
I have been observing the writing skills of some members of the IF forums and decided to issue you all with a challenge (I am sure the members wont mind-I hope). Since your storylines suck a bit and it seems you all are running out of ideas (one such example is the introduction of shravni), the intellectuals of the forum will write (or at least) conceptualize the storyline for Pavitra Rishta (with the exception of cbnerd-she will sink your show). If you all don't believe me, take a look at the IF forums and see for yourself the types of individuals we have contributing to the debates, I want to stress they are highly educated people some of whom have aspiration of becoming poets and authors of the highest caliber. I can certainly assure you that your ratings will skyrocket within that month (and we will undoubtedly see the reunion of ArMan which is the best part).
If within that month your ratings fall, the IF members will reimburse you for your loss (not cbnerd, remember she wouldn't be writing any scripts). Just to be sure the rest of the IF crew is with me on this idea, I will have to pass this idea by them and get back to you all, but don't worry you will surely hear from us soon.
Thanking you in advance.

@cbnerd:

The problem is that you and Kool and I and most of the others on this forum are urban, progressive, and educated; the large majority of Indian tele-serial viewers are not. The creatives have to cater to that large demographic hinterland for whom politically correct notions of gender equality etc have zero relevance. And it's not only rural or small town people who think like that. One contributor, I forget her handle, wrote that her mother-in-law approves of what's happening with Archana, finding all her suffering and subservience completely acceptable. The creatives are using their heads, unfortunately, heads that are busy totting up TRP figures and advertising revenues. Those of us who see through them and yet are unable to disengage from what was once a charming and different romance must fume and grit our teeth, or cool our heels, but in either case wait it patiently out.

I guess ur right commentator [ u must post more often .ur posts r VERY interesting ]

but i think what cbnerd is trying to say is it is not really necessary to be stereotyped senselessly to this extent .........that indeed TRPs cn rise high with good scripts too . Frankly speaking the viewers dont have much choice . All serials r like this only and they say What the hell , we wanna relax at the end of the day switch on one with a likeable hook and get resignedly allow themselves to get addicted .

The hooks r inevitably nice , they ensure that . If u note , the scriptwriting is terrific till the hook part . That means they do know how to script write well . Then why do the scripts run amok later ? Why is every track not that great as one ........some plummet the TRPs so low while others take them to peak point ?

See the CB hook . A US returned guy in love with a simple village girl , gets married to her sister as brides r switched ..........the frustration that ensues . The hook was terrific . Today see where it is.........they copied the Vivaah track shoddily , and cured the burnt heroine by some baths in a magical pond or something if i gather correctly with my peeps in the forum . Saat phere was the story of a dark skinned gal who had a fairy tale wedding who defies the notion that only fair gals make it big via the marraige market scene in an Indian scenario ..........and the end was ........the dark gal is the biggest loser out there , she had a jail sentence and was a nanny to some rich guys inspite of a singing talent .

It doesnt make sense . The hooks and the endings r North pole and South pole . It really neednt be this way .

See PR . Still in good shape , undoubtedly , But already going awry and charm rapidly fading away .........in desperation they add more and more TWISTS to grab TRPs instead of getting the original charm back . They cud have exonerated Manav with the tape , made Archna manao him , showed him miffed for a while , but they went and killed the humor element in the serial ............Sachin . An irreplaceable twist. The sindoor scene that has followed will never make the serial the same again . They cud have easily replaced the actor that was Sachin .........but they chose to kill him ? So many potential tracks cud have developed ..........why ?????

its not the classes vs masses thingy . Some of the tracks r downright unbelievable even for the masses . Stupid , and unbelievable . Already Archna is wearing dowdy bordered saris inspite of being so young and beautiful ..........where the hell have the beaiutiful salwar khameezes in the title song gone ? Is archna ever dressed that way ? That black salwar khameez is stunning and accentuates her fair skin .......her hair is open and loose .........do we ever see Archana that way? And Shravi in a white ........i repeat , WHITE salwar khameez ?Who the hell makes these stereotypes ? Why blame the masses for wanting them when they themselves remain puzzled at these eighteenth century displays in this age and century ?

The hook , the tracks and the ending is the procedure .

The hooks........terrific

The tracks........hot and cold

The endings.........INevitably bizzare

Why ? Cannot one visualise a serial with a beginning and an end ? There was a time , when the TRPS werent there , that soaps were made with a beginning and an end . Look them up and redefine the soaps just like the remixes today . They r hits . and i dont mean flicking storylines ........i mean THINKING .

@Kool:

Yes, I'm pretty certain too that they can put their heads together and come up with good copy or why would we be hooked in the first place. But the requirement of the hour is to stretch the story out to its utmost and that's where our credibility and patience get strained. I guess, quite honestly, that I don't know enough about the "masses" though, so perhaps I should refrain from oracular pronouncements on their requirements and/or assimilative capabilities. I assumed there's SOME section of the audience that's happy with what the creatives are up to, and since it's not us, it had to be other segments that must, by definition, be unlike us. Or have ALL of us - "classes" and "masses", or however who describe us all - been similarly suckered?? What a truly depressing thought. And such diabolical cleverness on the part of those creatives..... I think I'll go back to online scrabble at 9.30!

See the sindoor gaffe . It was deliberate ........they made the mistake DELIBERATELY .

Uptill now , Maharshtrian culture has been portrayed to perfection in this serial with really good research .

Milk and warm water poured on the feet of the person bringing the Ganesh idol home on Ganesh Chaturthi day , Dattatreya photos and SWami Samarth photos in the background of Karanjkar home among gods .......the typical Maharashtrian jewellery worn by Sulochna ........like pearl kudis in the ear or the choker around her neck ........the nath in her nose and the flower venis around her hair bun ........excellent details .

Then the sindoor gaffe . Marathi people do not put sindoor in the mang .......haldi kunku is applied between eyebrows and mangalsutra is the main ornament denoting marital status . The creative team that etched out such Maharshtrian details to perfection surely cannot be this stupid to do this blooper . This blooper was deliberate ..........it was a TRP blooper . The sindoor filled in maang scenario inevitably pulls the heart strings of masss viewers so it was thrown in with mantras echoing in background . It must have increased TRPS . But quality of serial got damaged .

Good copy capability is there , some of the bloopers r deliberate .

@commentator, i understand that the creators of these shows are catering to the indian population, some of them possessing way back when ideas and traditions. But they also have to understand that their shows are also being aired in the western societies, heck i live way on the other side of the world and mind you i dont even understand hindi, but i do enjoy indian movies and tv shows (providing they are subtitled). So what i am trying to get at is the viewing population out of India far surpass the traditional indian population. and as such they have got to cater to the wider population and not shove this backward thinking monster in law type of bahavior down our throats.
P.S. I didnt have my coffee yet so please excuse the shabby explanation, later on the day when i am awake and bubbly i will explain in detail
