My reading of Anusha's character is that she is a showy society hi-society types but not evil. She wanted Simi out of Anita's way because she felt her daughter could be dominated (was ever a mother so misguided in her daughter's nature), not because she disliked Simi. She didn't hatch any Anita-like evil plans to oust Simi, but took a practical approach (rishta for Simi) that would benefit all. Naturally no mum would jump for joy on hearing her darling highly eligible son was in love with a plain woman several years older. So Anusha's initial dismay on learning this (with Anita's masala) is understandable, and she was willing to go along with any reasonable effort to prevent this (how was she to know the extreme rancour behind the efforts). But when it came to a choice between this and her son's happiness, a mother's instinct won over Anita's brainwashing, hence the turnaround I guess.
I am more surprised by Mr T's opposition. I found his character that of a hard-headed businessman but not a bad man. Demonstrated in many instances…
He very rightly disapproved when he saw his prospective son in law drunk, and relented when things were made clearer.
He can't be bothered with society's approbation else he wouldn't have gone ahead with AA rishta after the RB baraat debacle. He even praised RS for his stand.
If he worried about his image he wouldn't have consented to such a simple AA wedding.
He offered to help RS when his shop was closed (I don't think it was because he was concerned about his daughter's family reputation), and had the decency to not press on when he saw RS didn't like it.
He chided his wife for interfering in Simi's life when she conveyed Nakul's rishta, and didn't agree when she spoke unkindly about Simi.
I don't think he had anything personal against Simi ever, and likely respects her for the way she resolved the AA marriage impasse.
Suddenly after Anuj's eviction from the Sethi's, Mr T's character has done a volte-face. He can't want a rich DIL nor is he the 'khandaan ki izzat' type, so it's not clear why he is opposing SimBhi?
