Please share your views on software (including movies and music) piracy. Is it justified, bad or good?
My views later.

Piracy of any kind is bad..it doesn't give credit to the original item and it's manufacturers. They loose a lot of money, which raises prices and inflation gets higher
On the up side, you save money and it teaches the manufacturers a lesson; that they shouldn't overprice items. I have indulged in buying pirated CD's myself, because it saves money.

doing a degree in computing this issue is very close to me

personally ive never used or downloaded pirated software
i get student editions or open-source
but frankly speaking i dnt blame ppl for downloading software illegally thru various means
simply coz software to far too highly priced these days
that the average joe cannot afford it
and why? most cases for software companies to line there own pockets
its diplorable action on there part and brings into the ethics of pricing software
having said that i have indulged in downloading music and movies thru means that are not legal
but again the issue of pricing comes in

I don't think software piracy is justifiable though, because IMO, you don't what the quality is, it may bring virus to your computer. I don't compromise when software is concerned and I'm sure it's the same with the others.

I read in article that 82% of all software use in india is pirated...its illigal or its a crime...but what to do, If public get software/music/movies from internet with serial no/crack version... who going to buy these things...actuly the problem is govt and other authories dont know or they still searching the correct way to stop these activities...I think its take 2,3 year more to solve the world wide issue 😊

Not every one in India can afford a computer ....going ahead and buying original softwares is way beyond imagination...just the basic Microsoft office will add on a cost of about Rs.8000 easily ....so think to an extent it is certified if we want to make people in poor regions computer literate....with time they themselves will understand the defects of piracy and the conditions will improve....more over if the software prices are reduced piracy probs can be reduced

but then if piracy is completely eradicated wat bout the viruses which the companies them selves float on the net so that their anti viruses can be sold....? who all will buy new anti virus no piracy = no sale of anti virus softwares
