30/1/2010 MARTYRS' DAY

"Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth."

-Albert Einstein on Mahatma Gandhi

Today is Martyrs day. On this day we remember and honour all those who gave up their lives in service of the Nation. The date was chosen as it marks the 1948 martyrdom of Gandhiji.

Martyrs including Gandhiji, Nethaji(Subhash Chandra Bose), Bhagat Singh and numerous others cherished the dream of a different India, where no one goes to bed hungry, where there is more equitable distribution of income and wealth, where there is no discrimination based on religion and caste, where women are honoured and respected, where there is least corruption, where everyone is equal before the law..

How far we were successful in meeting their dreams..?

Not a lot actually. There is still corruption, poverty, cleanliness issues, money problems, prostitution, suicidal problems, rape, dehej and all that. But that is again because the Brits screwed us over, they took all our money and revenue and our sipping their tea and eating fish and chips with that money.

Its an imp day for some reflection - it reminds us of what sacrifices & struggles our countrymen went through. We are living in free India thanx to them. It was a hard & long fought battle . We must cherish our freedom & sovereignty & do everything possible to retain it & not let divisive forces amongst us render us apart thus undoing all the hard work put in by generations !
Let us all awake to our responsibility to retain the unity of our great nation & foil the mischief makers nefarious plans for petty self interest & vote politics. May good sense prevail always !

yes, but there are so many loopholes we can't break the web of corruptness alone. We need to do it together. But very well said👏 we need to have more alert citizens like you do something about it. No one really seems to care. They leave it upto the social leaders to do all this. But the common man also has to take an initiative.

No certainly not, pogo ji. We have much to blame for our own doing. Look at parties like Shiv Sena and look how it leads to corruption and 'dadagiri' in Mumbai. A police officer can be bribed into not filing an FIR. So, why is all this and who is to blame? The system. And the sad part about it is that not many people take an initiative, including myself.

Yeah I agree we have to start with ourselves. No contribution is small. Every journey begins with a single step. i b liv in the ripple effect. we can start with simple things like not giving or accepting bribes. For this we have to B ready & patient to wait our turn & not jump queues. saying No to unfair letters of recomendation etc. Corruption is the main factor thats eroding our national fabric.

I know. But how will physics help in solving crime? Besides, the pay'll be low and it won't look good because my dad has done a Post-Doc and me a police officer?
