What are you implying? What about other religions and societies? If most of the Muslim societies are closed and don't let the kids especially gals exercise their right to freedom that doesn't mean they share more brotherly camaraderie.

The Chinese here in Singapore do mix around but then it is basically each man for himself and they try to be independent and build their own businesses; sometimes brothers may cheat brothers too.
Even those that go to the Church do not seem to be as close as the Muslims that visit the Mosques all dressed very simply.
Some Hindu communities are close too but I have noticed some competition there too.
This is just an observation as I hardly attend any public prayers myself.

I think it is natural for people to get sentimental about home and their roots. Not just Indians, but a lot of people who come from collectivist cultures have very strong family ties and sentiments attached to their homeland.

There is nothing wrong with being sentimental. In fact I find it odd how people cannot be nostalgic and revel in sweet memories of home. What irks me though is when Indians turn their sentiments into misplaced superiority and look down on other people.

Second, third generation children have it hard balancing Indian culture in the western world they grow up in. Many of them do have fondness and pride in being Indian, but its different from what a first generation Indian would feel. I think many Indians tend to be unfair to the next generation kids expecting them to seclude themselves from the world they live in to conform to some lofty idealistic standards.

Also irritating is when Indians feel that Indian culture is superior. One must always be proud to be an Indian, but arrogant in being Indian is wrong. People may not share our culture and values, but they still have their own sentiments about what they value and we ought to respect that. In fact such respect is a part of our Indian value system and we tend to forget that.

Even I believe you don't need to be an Indian to be sentimental. It depends on your culture, on the environment you've grown up into, on your own genes, but also on, your education, your parents.

Its digs vs digs. When others take a dig then Indians take a dig.
(It reminds me if I start digging in Delhi then I will end up in south pacific ocean.)
