I agree with you Jack. the great thing about sytycd is that a master of the style taught the dance style so we got to see it more authentically and it would be really nice to see that on did. the masters did have a month with the dancers which is a good amt of time to get in training so i do expect more. i too am sad that terrence's comments are being cut or limited as well.

i watch show online and find myself forwarding more this year as they do so many non-dance related things. if they did something like sytycd with avs that gave u insight into the contestants, etc that would be so much better than the stuff they are doing as time fillers.

they need to cut the drama and make it about dance. in terms of authenticity , in the case of binny's dancing this week, i have a feeling she focussed more on her solo than the salsa bc she had to nail her solo to stay in the competition. given what she did as a "untrained" dancer i do think she had the work ethic and drive to really learn a dance, but in this case understandably perhaps she spent more time on one.

long story short tho - less drama PLEASE more real dancing!

Cumon guys ... we indians love Drama ... thats why we watch daily soaps ...

when people make reality shows like DID ... then they have to add drama because its what we people love ... if it was like shows from UK/US, then it would be a flop because its not what we like .... Indian people typically like Drama and thats why you will see dram in most non-drama shows like dancing/singing competitions ...

Look at X factor in the UK, simon cowell (veryyy rich producer) passes his comments on the show and says "Tonight, you were useless". He does not point out which bit was bad or what they could do to improve. The concept is very similar, each judge mentors a group of singers and then gets judged when they perform. This show is a massive hit n the UK. For the last 3 years, the winner has had the #1 christmas spot.😉(this year was an exception but he got to #1 a week later)
However, my point is, all these judges do is come and look pretty and pass a few comments here and there. Singers cheryl cole and Dannii Minogue have spent over a million pounds on their wardrobe.
India is getting there slowly. Give it a chance to grow and as each season goes by, I am sure the contestants will just get stronger and stronger.😊

@Jackcole: i didnt watch all the indian shows you mentioned...but i've watched a lot of hindi shows on Zee and Sony. AND, i also watch those american shows.

@Hindu4lyfe: I agree with the part about the people abroad (im from US) having to pay a lot of extra money just to get indian channels. But we only have those channels cause we understand hindi (we're punjabi, but the languages are so similar). I really like DID...i watched SYTYCD but i never got attached to it. I stopped watching after the first 2 episodes. But for some reason, Im super attached to DID. I just HAVE to watch it twice the day it comes on. First during the day and then i'll watch it with my parents at night 😆

Hey guys do you watch the new Saas Bahu serial called Dance India Dance? But here the difference is that there is no saas Bahu but Mothers, Fathers, Daughters and Sons crying, hugging, and getting so affectionate with each other, which in their daily lives they don't even bother to do. Now, is this a new way to get more TRP or loose TRP, is a question that only the creative team of DID can answer. Do people actually buy this nonsense in India? Children who otherwise disregard their parents are giving all the credit to them on screen. For what? To have a huge fan following and then eventually get a film, or a serial or they genuinely are thankful towards their parents. And if they are truly thankful to their parents then it can also be done without all the drama on screen.
I am so glad that Punit is not faking his personality on the show and needlessly shedding tears. Besides he is doing a good job on the show but unfortunately he is not in the limelight. But thats okay! His art will speak for himself.
I think this year the contestants are getting trained not only in dance but also in acting because DID has become a ticket to get into Bollywood films. Dance is Secondary, therefore the choreographers are being very political.

Great going India. You will take another century to reach the international level.
You can keep crying, Keep having KIT KAT breaks and the lousy jokes on the hosts. The world has gone far ahead, but you are allowed to move at a snail's pace because that is what India is known for. Thank you for not promoting and respecting dance on a dance show.

My only suggestion to the DID team is "WAKE UP SID" 😡

And for the DID creative team: Please be more creative, innovative and think big. Make this show better. Don't be stupid and show that you have received no education ever. And if you can't create anymore then quit....

Best Regards,
A well wisher of DID and a fan of Jack Cole.

Your posts are always so interesting..and thought provoking.. I know you mean well.. but i suppose.. people have their own view and thoughts about things, and what they want to achieve in life, given the opportunities. This is just a stage for opportunities.. then people search for their own niche in the industry.. based on what they can get.. and what they want to get. But yea.. if dance is what all they wanted then sticking to dance will help open doors to many other sectors in life. This is a good experience for them. I do wish India would get recognized for its varied culture and many dance forms.. we are all soo rich in culture.. and I really feel, if they did something like.. fridays indian classical dance forms and other dance forms hailing from india.. (new and old)..and saturday.. a new style.. contemporary perhaps.. would be nice. heh. just my thoughts.. I really like this show. and sytycd.. does have a lot of variety..but its true.. we shld let DID grow on its own. We have great mentors in the show.. esp. Terrence.. he outstands all! He's truly amazing imo. Well..lets see.. its one of his visions too, to set a stage for indian dancers on the international contemporary levels, and in his dance academy, i'm sure, he is helping his dancers open doors for many.. other hiden talents, all over india. At least we are taking some steps, even if its baby steps.. 😊 So lets full on support the team.. and yes, also keep the big picture in mind. but your points are good too. Too much drama can often disillude us from the main focus of the subject. But when it comes to contests showing their appreciation for their parents, i feel, its a good gesture to show, i dont per say see it at 'drama' i see it as a gratitude. 😊 It pleases our minds, consciously or subconsciously.. 😊 Whether they mean it or not. However, i feel..they could cut down on 'saumya and dharmesh' drama. it just looks really awakward from both perspective.. the contestant/host and also the audiences.
You probably know a lot more since you are friends with the contestants, as you say, and since you've been there yourself. But perhaps over time.. the creative can learn to appreciate what the public wants and desires that is dance.. seeing dance. For us, its not so much of drama that we want to see.. by that i mean.. scripted 'jokes' rather.. something natural.. like what they do with Jay. it seems really funny and fun to watch him. We appreciate real emotions.. and not 'just for the sake of it' to help raise trp. We are pretty good at depicting.. scripted and unscripted work. 😊 So.. what the judges say are real emotions.. much appreciated by us.. we want to see.. how they feel. The creative shouldn't worry about neg. affects on public.. they should not edit out Terrence's comments regarding the performance of the contestants. We want to see them.. it makes us understand things better.. and will also help future contestants. Which is highly imp. isn't that what the creative would want?! To get better contestants? and those who are more learned? We need those comments!! Money would pour naturally.. if we see natural work!! 😃
Thank you! hehe.. 😊
