| Hotties & Independence Quotient! We conducted an independence trivia comprising five questions with five of the hottest women on television. And topping the list was Saumya Tandon, who thus made it to our cover! T he first time this pretty girl went up on stage, she broke down into tears and retraced her steps. The occasion was a fancy dress competition in her school. Thereon, her parents took it upon themselves to rid her of her stage fear. That they were successful can hardly be doubted for their little girl was none other Saumya Tandon, who took Dance India Dance to another level as the show's anchor. We are now certain that Saumya is the next big thing! A poet, an MBA, an actor and an anchor, she wears many a hat. From soaps to films to anchoring Dance India Dance, she has never failed to connect with the audiences. And if the beauty and talent weren't enough, she also scored a cent percent in our Independence quiz! Now that's what we call a beauty with brains. GR8! CELEBRITY: I don't understand the concept of a celebrity, I've certainly never tried to be one. But I have always loved performing. In that regard, I was something like a child prodigy in my city. But fame has its pros and cons. Like being recognized and watched by people and media alike can be a little uncomfortable sometimes. In Mumbai it's a little subtle, but in smaller towns people really mob you. But it's also sweet when they say they love you, it's touching and encouraging. GR8! ENTERTAINMENT: I really feel like acting in good feature films now. That is what I enjoy the most and I surely see myself there someday! Frankly, I did not enjoy my daily soap stint in TV, it left me disillusioned. In a daily, they really compromise on creativity, you work at bizarre hours, and your acting loses spontaneity. Instead of performing, you end up doing a job. In that sense, Jab We Met was a great decision. I always knew it was Kareena's film, but I had a great character role. I truly believe that if a part is well played, nobody can take that away from you. I forgot I was Saumya when for a month, we shot at a Sardar's haveli in a village. When I read the script and saw the set-up, I realized that after coming to Mumbai it is for the first time that I'd be working with people I want to work with. Initially, I had also been offered a UTV movie opposite John Abraham, which never did take off! GR8! DANCE SHOW: Interestingly, both UTV and ZEE TV approached me at the same time for Dance India Dance. At first I was skeptical as I thought it'll be 'just another dance show'. But when they explained the concept to me, I was hooked for I'm very fond of dance myself. The show too, turned out to be much better than all our expectations. No reality show in the recent past has touched such TRPs. During the peak of the grand finale, we actually touched a 9! So even though it was not a fiction show, it touched the audiences. On days when DID was aired, i.e. Friday-Saturday, I used to get 100-150 mails and my website would crash. On my part, I tried to be natural while adding my little bits. I truly enjoyed it, and am supposed to do the next two seasons as well. My biggest moment on the show was when Mithunda said that I have lan, grace and dignity, and am his favourite. I felt like I'd won the taqdeer ki topi! |
