I read that an Indian has been burnt alive in Australia and is now recovering in the hospital. This is the 3rd attack in the last 10 days, according to the Hindu. And obviously, this is just one of the attacks on Indians by Australians.

"Police said the assault, which occurred Saturday in Melbourne, did not appear to be racially motivated. But it comes amid growing tension between India and Australia over a highly publicized spate of street violence against Indian students in recent months in Australia's second largest city."

here is a good page on the attacks:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_attacks_on_Indian_students_in_Australia

So my question is why do these attacks go on without any corrective measures other than "expressing regret"?("Indian students considered the response by the police and transit authorities to be inadequate, and consequently organised themselves into their own protective groups to deter victimisation.")

And it is sad that people cant move out. perhaps they have no choice.

Dear gengarjetty2, it is sad news which comes out of Australia. But believe me, some Desi's are not very good in international relations. Sometimes not even minutely good even. Some see western women as bed-warmers only, in the process ignoring other people's feelings and sensitivities (often I have seen and heard about tears from eyes which saw a desi version of disgraceful cheating/mental torture).

However disgusting some desi bhai's attitude be ... this offense which is hurled on them is criminal. If Australia does not do anything about this, we Indians should take diplomatic steps and lobby in the UN. This is the height of atrocities. Although Australia is a strategic ally, we do not need friends who dont respect us. If India wants, it can inflict serious economic damage to Australia. In the process we also should be ready to pay the price for our respect and dignity.

@gengarjetty2 :

1. Their behaviour with Indian women is much better than some of our pig's behaviour with western women. And even if they (the western) were bad (to our women), still some of our Pig's action are not justified (we went to their land to call it home...remember?). Our disgusting Pig's are a disgrace without a doubt...and they charr the image of our diamonds and pearls who go foreign places to share their light in their new homeland and their country of nativity.

Again, the westerns are not as bad to our women.

2. The last sentence means: We may have to feel some pressure to to inflicting sanctions and perhaps shunning diplomatic or economic ties. Indians might have to eventually return, students wont be able to go there...and some economic burns we might also need to suffer. But, eventually if India turns furious...it will hurt Australia alot more than it will to India. And India can still grow. Plus, India can also lobby with other nations against Australia. India can do MANY MANY MANY things...only if it wants. Ofcourse, we may have to pay some price in terms of money or other privileges....but before all else comes our nation's pride.

After reading & seeing different news channels and news paper reports,I feel that, Australian govt has been inviting students from foreign countries to join their colleges to save their colleges.. If the same situation persists, and if immigration is affected, then in the near future, they will have to close down all the colleges leaving empty classrooms. Even their govt is aware of it....Another thing I suggest every Indian to work and live in a Western Nation for at-least 3 months.You will learn the good, bad and ugly sides of their and OUR culture and socio-economic conditions....If we check history or ausies....Hard Core Criminals of the past british colonies were taken to australia. Though these criminal reformed overtime, yet the genes are same...As australia as i have seen many of them are full of boozers, sex offenders, maniacs and drug addicts (see the number of australians getting capital punishment in singapore, indonesia, malaysia, thailand and other countries). As presented by the university bodies there is no high level of education in Australia. Asians are rather lured and duped in a billion dollar scam to come to australia for degrees that do not have any value in the world. Except the arabian gulf, no other region in the world has any value for australian education. Nevertheless the arabian gulf is the only place where australians do get some jobs. So why do asians ever go to australia/nz instead of academically better countries like US, UK, Germany, Japan. The answer is the cheaper education for a foreign degree. But if foreign degrees are meant to get a job, then asians are the biggest losers. As they wont be getting any jobs in the world.

The value of an australian degree is even less than an indian, singaporean or malaysian degree. Second reason is Indians who want to get citizenship at cheap price so that with australian passport they can get fat dowry in India (specifically sardarjis sorry no offense..check the dowry details other facts..), or higher pay jobs elsewhere in the world. But they have not realised that australians are not highly paid in the world, so why not spend some more money in other countries & be at par with elite...and am totally convinced that Australia is the most racist countty in the world today.What does Lleyton Hewitt and Tennis Australia have to say about safety ?????? and what does Andrew Symonds and Cricket Australia have to say about racial remarks and monkeys??? Spineless gutless Aussies , why do you pick on harmless students? These actions are a vivid demonstration of the convict genes in aussies.....I just wanna quote this saying...'A country is not made of land... a country is made of its people. -- by Unknown😊
