Politics is just a waste of time, I mean, usme khaas kya hai? It just makes a country more and more corrupt. And they call the study of politics "Political Science"?WHAT??? I don't see the science involved in it. These are just stratagies. SO, what do you guys think. Plzzz post your views about this topic(Again, this is only my opinion, I'm not trying to convince anyone or trying to prove a point).

Science means knowledge. And political science not only deals with the practice of politics but also the theory behind different political systems. The term 'politics' actually refers to the process by which a group of people make decisions, in informal language, however, politics has been coined to mean something more negative, referring to political behavior rather than theory behinds the legal system. Political science, to me, is actually very interesting, instead of listening to the politicians, or even instead of blaming the politicians ... learn how the legal system works, what the law says, not only in your own nation, but also across the board.

As far as the comment in bold red goes, this is a debate section, your whole purpose is to convince people you're right and they're wrong. 😉 And if you're not trying to prove a point, then you're wasting my time. 😛

To rule and govern a country Politics is necessary. There must be proper rules and laws set up to ensure that the Government is efficient and effective.
But of course generally politics can be pretty dirty and there is plenty of abuse of power and corruption.

A lot of people consume a lot of politics, but never do anything with it. They stay up to date on current events and political news, they lose sleep over it, they talk about it incessantly, but they never do anything with it. It's like spending a decade in college and graduate school to get a Ph.D in engineering, but then never actually building anything.

Either produce something instead of endlessly consuming, or do neither, and do something useful with your life instead.

BTW Nice font color Summer ji 😉

I agree with everyone of you, but politics is kinda like communism. It's actually a government in which the money is divided between all the people, accoring to Marxism. But then other forms like Stalinism, Facism come in later on that destroy Marxism and says that the ruler is the Supreme Being and there's no freedom of press and all that.

Interesting thread! I actually major in Political Science so I get this a lot:

"Are you studying to be a politician?"
"So what do you actually do?"
"Isn't politics a waste of time? Aren't you Indian? How come your parents didn't get you to study something useful?"

I think Political Science is interesting (obviously) because it helps us comes to terms with how society governs itself, based on what principles, and most importantly, how these principles can be altered or improved upon. So yeah, as ajnabee points out, one can specialize in legal practice/reform and study of legislation (which is what I hope to do), but one can also study political theory that tries to understand the world, such as marxism, which gives a lot of insights about global reality.

I think in order to do something in the world, we first have to understand it. The world is full of do-ers, and not enough understand-ers. A lot of people think they know what the solution is, and a lot of people in power are already applying what they think the solution is (or preventing what they think is the wrong thing, as the case may be). But there isn't enough consideration that goes into all of this. I think that's where philosophers and political scientists and generally social scientists come in, so they can train to understand the world and so they can point out the flaws of our governing systems. At the end of the day it has to be a collective effort rather than some intellectual elite controlling things, or having the ruling class control things. This is where education comes in. All social science is also an exercise in building knowledge that can be disseminated.

Politics is life. As they say, the personal is also political. We might think things in our own life don't pertain to politics or the world at large, but it does, it always does..

With politics comes huge responsibilities. However look at how controversial politics is. Because of it, their was the Kargil War, Nixon printed the Pentagon Papers and was later published etc. Now of course, it has it's a. But look at all the corruption take places all around the world because of politics. Without politics, there'd be anarchy but look at all the corrupt people in politics and nothing is done without looking at one's own self-interest.If everything was done fairly, then I wouldn't have thought wrongly of politics.
