The Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots has kicked up a fresh controversy after 18 medical students were expelled from their hostel on charges of ragging in a manner similar to a scene in the movie and the Maharashtra government saying it would go through the script.
The students, who were arrested on Sunday, were released on bail on a bond of Rs 5,000 each after they were produced before the Bhoiwada metropolitan magistrate.
"We have expelled the 18 students from the college hostel. But they will continue their studies," Mr Sanjay Oak, the dean of Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM hospital at Parel, said.
According to a senior member of the anti-ragging committee, "Lewd and obscene comments were passed on the 10 junior medical students. They were forced to enact certain obscene and explicit scenes with each other."
The incident came to light after one of the victims, who is related to an assistant commissioner of police, informed her relative about it.
Maharashtra's medical education minister, Mr Vijay Kumar Gavit, has called for the CD and script of the controversial movie to see for himself, if there were any objectionable scenes, which could instigate ragging in colleges and schools.
