Brij walks in and congratulates Jyoti for coming up w/ a story after the truth was out there before all, and that she deserves an award. He challenges her to tell the whole truth, and admit that she was afraid that he'd show all her love letters as evidence. (Switching to his lying mode) he continues that he'd show Pankaj that even after marriage, her love for him hadn't gone down any. And today, when she's scared of her marriage coming apart, she confessed all before Brij could say anything, so that they believe her instead of him.
Jyoti just stares at him shocked (why? This part was over-dramatic but dragging on: Jyoti knows what a scumbag he is, so why be slow w/ her response?) and Pankaj is now furious, and lunges at Brij. ๐๐๐ He yells how did Brij dare come there, and boxes him in the face. ๐๐ MN & Uday try to hold him back, but Brij asks MN to let him hit him if he wishes (what a prince!!!) He tells Pankaj to feel free to hit him and that he's a disgrace to their friendship. He says that he should have told him the day he met him that he knew Jyoti, but he didn't. Pankaj retorts that he doesn't want to hear a word from him, and orders him to leave! ๐๐๐
Brij agrees and is about to leave, when CM stops him (how predictable!!!) She asks Pankaj to at least hear Brij's side of the story, and Brij, who's facing away from everybody, gives a sly grin. CM asks Brij to tell them if it was true that Jyoti was about to marry him? (Jyoti had already admitted that that was on the cards, so what's the point of asking Brij? Besides, Jyoti never got an invitation from Brij or his family to marry, so how is it true, even if Jyoti wanted it?) Brij affirms it, and says that they both loved each other a lot. He tells CM that Jyoti was the gal he was describing at the party. She loved him like anything, but loved the riches of this family even more. Then one day, she left him, and out of grief, he went ahead and married her sister (isn't this a dead giveaway for a lie? If one were betrayed by someone, would one then go ahead and marry that same person's sibling?) Brij continues that she pretended to be compassionate and won over Pankaj, b'cos he was rich, and would be very useful to her. But it was not easy to forget one's first love. He tells them that she was not happy to see him happy w/ her sister, and did whatever she could to ruin his career, his marriage, his everything. Brij tells Pankaj that once he became his friend, it became impossible to sustain this lie, and conceal that Jyoti was romantically after him. He tried to convince her to stay away from him, and even threatened that he'd go to her in-laws and reveal everything. Fearing this, Jyoti pre-empted him and told them her self-serving account of what took place, so that she'd look like a sati-savitri and he like a villain. Pankaj is still furious, and tells him that in his house, he pretended to be a stranger and put up this charade. If Jyoti cheated him on one hand, so did Brij!!! (I'm glad that Brij's not getting away w/ this as far as the Vashisths go) ๐๐๐
At this point, Jyoti, who had been listening to all these totally dumbstruck, perks up, goes up to Pankaj and tells him that Brij is lying. She had left Brij long before she met Pankaj. Brij maintains that he's telling the truth, and Jyoti now turns on him and slaps him, ๐๐ telling him that he's not satisfied in destroying her family, and to get out right now!!!
Brij asks her defiantly who she is to throw him out, since he's there at the behest of his friend Pankaj. At this, Pankaj yells that there is no friendship b/w them, and orders him to leave right now!!! ๐๐ Had he been a true friend, he'd not have been silent until today. This time, and probably the last time in his life, he'd trust Jyoti on this one. ๐๐ Brij agrees that he didn't tell him since he wanted to do what Jyoti wants, since he still loves her. Pankaj yells back at him that Brij loved Jyoti, but married her sister, while Jyoti loved Brij but married him. In all of this, he is going insane. He then lunges at Brij again and pushes him out. Finally, Brij leaves. ๐๐๐๐
Pankaj then turns to Jyoti and tells her that even she would concede that after all this, both of them can't live under the same roof. So it's up to her to decide - either she goes, or he goes. Jyoti is shocked to hear this, and asks him what's he saying? He tells her that exactly what she heard - she's intelligent, does she need this translated or explained for her? He asks her to tell him who'd leave the house - she, or he?
It's now CM's turn to rant. ๐ก She asks Pankaj how can he be the one leaving, since it was his home? She claims that she knew from day 1 that she had doubts about Jyoti. Since an educated, attractive girl was willing to marry him, there must have been more to it than met the eye (It's nice to hear her insulting her dear Pankaj by insinuating that no girl would fall for him out of love, but only out of greed). She tells him that while everyone else in the family accepted Jyoti, she never did (surprise surprise!!!) She points out that after the marriage, she tried several times to bring Jyoti's behavior to his attention, but he always took her side. She lists Jyoti's faults - her working and sending that salary to her maakya, her pawning her jewellery for their sake, not being there even when there was that heist that resulted in injury to MN, G & Pankaj himself - even then, she was busy w/ social work (at this point at least, Jyoti could have said that she was doing it for Sushma, but then again, that would only have fed into the accusation that all she was interested in was her maakya). CM claims that they all forgave Jyoti b'cos Pankaj wanted her, and it was him whom she cheated? It was only b'cos of Jyoti that Pankaj went against CM's wishes. What sort of comfort is he trying to give them all by talking about leaving the place? At this point, MN tries to intervene, but CM continues. She demands to know from Pankaj whether Jyoti ever behaved like the wife or the bahu of the house? 24 hours a day, she was at the beck & call of her maakya - her in-laws never figured in her life. And the worst part of all this was that her entire family was w/ her in this cover-up - the way they sent their youngest daughter as a servant to their place (hey, CM, it was you who asked for her), the way they pretended not to know Brij despite knowing him. She asks Pankaj that if Jyoti made her entire family dance to her tune, would she let go of them all? CM says that she understood that Jyoti's family needed her support until such time her bro got a proper job, but did that mean that she had the right to cheat them? She continues that she's angry and ashamed that despite having such an illustrious hubby such as him, she kept alive a relationship w/ someone else (This is one of the reasons that Jyoti should have ignored Sushma after her marriage, and just left it to Deepu & Padma). And Pankaj is asking this girl who should be the one to stay, or leave?
At all this, Jyoti is now in a daze (is it just shock @ CM, or is it also b'cos she's pregnant?) and her head starts swinging, and she's about to faint. ๐ญ๐ญ Seeing this, Sudha is alarmed, and tries to protest to CM re: Jyoti's innocence, but CM stops her, and tells her that she is there b'cos of Jyoti (can't let that go, can ya?), but despite everything, just to keep Uday happy, she allowed Sudha to live there. ๐ก๐ก However, if she determined that she wanted to side w/ her sister, she too would have to leave. And this time, it wouldn't matter what Uday said or did (he'd be welcome to leave? How conveniently CM forgets that if it weren't for Jyoti, Uday would be in another city w/ Sudha). CM swears that if Sudha does anything like this, then this time, as long as she's alive, CM wouldn't allow her back into the house. ๐ก๐ก๐ก
In Jyoti's room, Pankaj heads towards the wardrobe and starts removing Jyoti's stuff. He pulls out the suitcase, puts it on the bed, and opens it, and puts her stuff in. Jyoti comes in, and Pankaj tells her to take everything - he doesn't want anything in the house that reminds him of her. He takes out the jewelry boxes and tells her to take all that, taunting her that that was why she married him, right? ๐ก๐ก Jyoti tries to remind him that before she fessed up, he used to love her a lot. In the name of that, she pleads w/ him to hear her side as well. Pankaj asks her what love is she talking about? There is no evidence that the Jyoti that he loved even exists: everything was a lie. While he keeps removing her stuff, something falls on the floor, on top of which is a withered garland. Pankaj reaches down, feels for it, picks it up, and asks Jyoti whether she recalls anything seeing these withered flowers? Jyoti recalls the time during their honeymoon when Pankaj bought her one of those flower hair-ties to tie Jyoti's hair from a flower girl, and how she asked Pankaj to go ahead and tie it when he wondered what it would be like. Pankaj taunts her that what would she do w/ these memories, when she never took stock of his emotions? He then squishes those withered flowers in his hands, while Jyoti continues crying. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ Pankaj continues that he was a sentimental fool who till this day has kept alive memories of his honeymoon. He tells her that she must be finding it very amusing to know that this person is so completely blind!!! He tells her that the charade is over, and to leave - there is no place for her in his life. Saying this, Pankaj turns around and storms out of the room.
Jyoti sits down on the bed and starts crying. After crying some, she slowly starts removing each ornament of hers, while getting flashbacks of the first time during her wedding that she wore them. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ She finally takes off the last of them, and all she has on is her mangal sutra, while in her hand is the anniversary gift that Sudha gave her - the heart shaped locket w/ her and Pankaj's wedding pics on either end. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ She sees their individual pics on either end, and the episode ends on her tearful face.
After leaving, Jyoti is walking down the streets alone, w/ Sudha's anniversary gift locket clasped in her hands, and flashback of Pankaj's parting shots at her telling her to leave. Finally, after a while, she feels dizzy, faints, and collapses on the ground.
First the positives!!! Finally, Brij's smooth talking does nothing for him, regardless of what it does to Jyoti: Pankaj tries to assault him, and at the end of it all, kicks him out anyway and orders him to stay out of his life. This despite cm doing Brij the favor of making sure that his side was heard as well. Hopefully, this is the last one sees or hears of Brij, since his capacity to do any more damage to Jyoti or Sushma is eliminated. I couldn't see a single positive outcome in all this for Brij. ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
Now the negatives!!! I knew that once Brij got in, he'd get an opportunity to spin, and spin he did - w/ his stories of how Jyoti pursued him, and all that. After all that Jyoti knows about him, I was shocked that Jyoti was shocked at what he said - she knows him better than that. At least she got the nerve to call him a liar after that and slap him, although in terms of being convincing, that was neither here nor there: those who believed her would believe her and those who disbelieved her weren't going to change based on just that. Also, Brij's allegation that Jyoti was prepared to marry him was nothing new - Jyoti herself had admitted as much. It's just his shuffling of the timelines that made it look ugly, and unfortunately, nobody in Jyoti's family, including Sudha, has the credibility to debunk that. Only time can.
CM's diatribe against Jyoti once Pankaj gave her the option of her leaving or him leaving was typical of her - just rant her old rants. On that basis alone, given that Jyoti has been insulted for a year by her, Jyoti should have herself told them that she was taking the initiative and leaving, since she didn't want to put up w/ these insults anymore, and that too from someone who was not even her own MIL, but whom she respected b'cos Pankaj did. Besides, CM's intervention was redundant - given this choice, Jyoti wouldn't have asked Pankaj to leave, but would have left on her own. I do like that in the end, she took off all her ornaments and jewelery, and put it down. If Pankaj remembered how reluctant Jyoti was to marry him when she found out that he was a millionaire, he wouldn't have gone by Brij's allegation that Jyoti went for him due to his riches. After all, if she did, wouldn't it have been a lot simpler for her to simply say yes the first time she was asked, instead of asking for time to think it over?
On Jyoti's future, I hope that she keeps the Rs10 lakhs she got, rather than return it. Why? B'cos she can't return to Shishu Mangal, since that place is funded in large part by her sasural. Besides, when Uday was returning his stuff before his planned departure, Jyoti gave him a lecture of how he was hurting his family. Same thing would apply here - if Jyoti were to return this, it would look like she was doing this to slight Pankaj. Only thing - looking at the precap where Jyoti faints on the streets, and recalling the introductory script for this serial, it looks like she is pregnant, which would make it exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, for her to move on (incidentally, the first indication that Sushma was pregnant was when she collapsed at the gates of one of the houses she was trying to work at - so the CVs seem to be using this as the first indications that a gal is pregnant). One more thing about the precap - she took nothing w/ her. Obviously, she couldn't have taken all that jewellery w/o vindicating Brij, but at least, she could have taken her clothes. Or did she want to take nothing out of that house, not even her own stuff? Also, where was the need to walk - she could have just taken an auto and gone either to her maakya or to Kalpana's.
I do hope that Sudha, who was given a choice of picking who she wanted to be loyal to, sticks w/ her sasural, since she's not been kicked out. While this may look like a betrayal of Jyoti, it's worth remembering that Uday was prepared to walk out on his family for her sake, so the least that she owes him is to stand by him over Jyoti, since he's done nothing wrong. Going by today's episode, I think CM may be okay w/ Sudha as long as she doesn't show any evidence of thinking about or grieving over Jyoti's expulsion. Sudha should stand by her sasural, just like Jyoti did when she was trying to keep Sudha out of it, and not demonstrate divided loyalties. Besides, if Sudha could live w/ the likes of Padma and Deepu after Jyoti left, she can live w/ Uday, who's been a lot more supportive of her, after Jyoti leaves. Again, going by the precap, looks like that's what she'll do, since Jyoti was shown walking alone.
Exit question: When are they celebrating New Years on Jyoti? Will Sudha be the star bahu this time, now that Jyoti is gone?
