Who is Asha?

I am confused...who is Asha after all??? Is she Madan Singh's sister's widowed daughter as currently they portray her in the show?
OR
Is she Madan Singh's late son's widow as she was first shown in the show when Anandi after her marriage has made Asha wear colored bangles and given her jalebi to eat? Needless to say that this had caused quite a drama in the show and Dadisa had locked Anandi up in kothri as a punishment for such an act.

Asha is Shyam's Bua's daughter-in-law. Her in-laws and husband died in an accident or something..
