Bayttab'.flounders as channel gives 'perform or perish' ultimatum

Sony's newly launched Bayttaab Dil Ki Tamanna Hai is faring poorly. Just two months ago, Ekta Kapoor had launched the show and now we hear, the channel has given an ultimatum to the cast and crew of the show ' pull up your socks or face the music!

Balaji's other show, Pyaar Ka Bandhan which launched with Bayttab has been picking up slowly though.

Bayttaab' is pitted against Uttaran(Colors), Sabki Laadli Bebo(Star Plus) and Karol Bagh (Zee TV). Since the other shows are doing well,naturally Bayttaab'is feeling the heat.

A source informed, "Bayttaab' has experienced actors like Aman Verma and Urvashi Dholakia along with new faces, but it is believed that it's the script which has done the show in. The new actors too are not up to the mark and the show has failed to generate interest among viewers."

The source added, "It has always maintained a constant TRP of 0.1- 0.3 which is not good. The unit has been given an ultimatum to perform and generate good TRPs, otherwise the show will be pulled off."

Yet another source in the production house confirms that the show is under the scanner, " yes, this is true but there is a possibility that it may be shunted to a different time slot probably at 8.30 pm."

Sumana Das, who plays Shamoli the main protagonist of the show said,"It's not true. These are just rumours. The show has just been launched. Like any new show, it will too take time to pick up."

She added, "I am told the TRP was 0.71 last week and it is very good for a new show. Also people hardly watch Sony and hence the TRPs of 0.71, with few loyal viewers is just not bad at all."

She also claims that her performance has been appreciated.

Priyamvada Kant who plays Kanchan said, "This is just not true. I have been receiving calls ever since the Yash Raj shows' promos went on air. I think people have misunderstood that our show is being taken off to accommodate their five new shows but Bayttaab is definitely not going off air."

All our attempts to reach Danish Khan, marketing head, Sony were futile, while Ekta denied any such development.

Ekta Kapoor's offering Baytaab Dil Kee Tamanna Hai on Sony is going off air.

It is hardly eight weeks since the show was launched but it has not performed well despite of the hype around it so there is a buzz that the channel is now planning to bring back its old show Crime Patrol that was a huge hit.

An Indya source tells us, "The show will be axed as it is not showing any progress in its performance in the TRP race, so next week there is a meeting between the channel officials regarding the same as there are chances to bring back the popular thriller series Crime Patrol. Shakti Anand hosted this show earlier and this show was based on real life incidents in crime. The date of the new version of this show is not yet fixed as there are certain things to be completed."

We spoke to Shakti Anand about this show," I have no clue about this and it's too early to comment on any thing as I am busy with my other projects."
