I agree with Gauri... There's someone who said: the moment you leave your house and set foot into society, you make an impression about yourself!

Let's modify that:

I think each time you express a thought, an idea or a belief, you are making a statement about yourself. I also feel people who believe in themselves don't need to make good impressions, because innerly, that's what they always are. Having caught 2-3 random episodes from so many reality shows, I just happened to realize that you can hide your personality, but for how long will you indulge into that? The more you try to make a good impression, the earlier you get fed up of that fake image and will end up disappointing the people around you.

I think I prefer Spontaneity most of the time. Doing what I would do, even if sometimes it may not be the right thing, at least everyone likes me because am the "real" me!

Talking about the virtual world, totally agree with Midnight, I think whatever the reason you post, blog or write on the net otherwise, there still are people behind these IDs, still personalities and characters that are doing the task, so one day or another, you obviously end up knowing how the person is!

One of my teachers loves saying this: "The way you hold your pen tells me so much about you, I don't even need you to write anything!"

talking about impressions, I try my best to refrain from that as well unless I know that person very well. As impression is an hindrance in knowing the person with an open mind, not that it can't be done but its usually hard. but it certainly helps people who want to run a filer on people and decide on upfront whom they would want to know further. But me, I want to know each and every person on this earth, only if I can😛.

Agreed that it's virtual and not meant to be taken seriously but not to the extent that you call people "electrons".....😆....It's similar to chatting with people on msn or yahoo messengers or on any other social networking sites like facebook, hi5, etc. You gotta acknowledge the fact that there are real people behind these IDs.....you're a real person....and not some electronic device without any heart-string. So am I and the rest of the folks out here. That's the reason why they have the code of conduct in these forums so that you don't cross the line and end up offending people with your posts.
Some people choose to extend their virtual friendship to real life friendship. So, definitely these IDs are more than just "electrons".
As for those who deliberately try to create some kind of "impression" on others without being their own self, I'd call them sore losers. What kind of a loser has to go online and pretend to be someone else?
However, we can't help but be judgmental in some cases. I mean, I personally know some people out here who go around telling on those who they have some kind of personal issues with, trying to tarnish their character and reduce them to rubble. Those kind of people who have nothing better to do than gossiping and snitching people out in a forum for their personal satisfaction indeed need to get a life, unless they have some kind of solid evidence to back up their claims.

Metaphorically speaking of course, i do know these electrons/protons are being controlled by humans like me and you. Im just saying that we shouldnt let them get to us, we dunno the masters behind them unless we're face to face we should be worried. No offence though. lol

lol Why. This sound very familiar to my way of thinking. You got to behave nice at work and classy in front of your parents friends. You dont have to do any of that in the virtual world because you can always walk away. The effects dont follow you around like a bad plague... You can afford to screw up easier, so that's also a reason to be yourself, at least mentally.

that said, virtual is all mental but what we miss is that much of real/ physical life is also mental. You still got to impress upon the canteen wala that he'll get paid next month, your boss that you're a super star, gals that they are the only ones in your live etc etc... It's mental in both cases and the feelings they engender in us/ others are real.😊

Totally.

See there are some things we cannot share with our loved ones or even friends offline, so for advice/help we go online since these people [respected electrons] don't know us personally, we can purge out without having to worry how it will effect our personal lives...unless ur on shaadi.com.

None taken. In fact, I agree with you for the most part. We shouldn't let the virtual thingy take it's toll on our life coz at the end of the day, we don't know anyone personally and the only thing we can rely on is their words. Indulging in virtual stuffs has its own share of pros and cons. That's an entire different topic.
Coming back to people leaving impressions on you, some leave rather long-lasting impressions on you, and some, you just tend to forget after a while. Either way, it's inevitable.
