I'm wary about overexposing our pairing: Saif
SARAH SALVADORE , TNN 18 November 2009, 12:08am ISTKurbaan is generating a lot of buzz as this is the first time the real-life couple has been paired opposite one another in reel-life. So will their chemistry be a big factor in drawing the audience to the theatre? "Of course. People will come in to see what we are like together on screen," he avers.
This film apart, the couple also has Saif's home production, Agent Vinod opposite one another. Producers are now lining up to sign this hot couple. But Saif is "wary about overexposing" their pairing. "I've always told Kareena that we should be doing more films with other actors. Once in a while if something crazy and exciting comes up then we are more than willing to work with each other. But at the same time, it's important to maintain the novelty factor of our pairing," said the Chhote Nawab.
While their off-screen love story has rendered them the tag of 'Saifeena' their love saga on the 70mm has been touted as a 'bloody' one. So why do a love story with terrorism as a backdrop? To which he replies, "Normally, pressure on a couple from society and family makes for good masala viewing. We have also seen love amidst natural disaster. But this movie makes you wonder if you can actually be in love with a terrorist."
With the film getting an A certificate from the censor board, does he feel that Kareena's fan base post Jab We Met which consist of young teens will feel alienated? "One can't always bear in mind the market when doing films. As an actor you have to do different things all the time," explains Saif. And the actor agrees that the A certificate is important for the film while claiming that the storyline is not similar to New York. "Our film is intense and gritty, unlike New York. Not everyone can watch it. Some scenes will make you want to look away," he confesses. Ask him if the release which is scheduled close to 26/11 is a careful marketing strategy, and he is quick to reply, "Why should 26/11 be that different from 9/11 or the London tube bombings? Yes, it could be a little close for comfort but random acts of terror are happening all the time."
From love and terrorism, the topic shifts to the home-front and his face immediately lights up at the mention of his kids. "Sara is an A grade student and Ibrahim is constantly trying to dodge his maths class. 😆
