Kurbaan was written with Shahrukh and Tabu in mind

Director Karan Johar was working on the plot and wanted Nikhil Advani to direct this film. The film was penned with Shahrukh Khan, Tabu and Sanjay Dutt in mind, but for unknown reasons the film got shelved and Johar started working on Kal Ho Naa Ho. This eventually went on to become Advani's directorial debut.

Now after seven years Kurbaan will finally see the light of day. "I had indeed written the story of Kurbaan about seven years ago, right after K3G. I wanted Nikhil Advani to direct the movie. Ironically the film was then titled Kaal, which later on became the title for Soham's film", said Johar.

The story was then passed on to Rensil D'Silva. "Rensil made a different film than what I had started with. Saif and Kareena were his first choices for Kurbaan", said Johar.

Although D'Silva has rewritten the script, a big thank you still goes out to Karan Johar
