So this has been floating around on my paper since Tuesday but things kept coming in the way.....only just finished typing it up and here it is;
Chapter XI
"Hi! Sorry I'm late. But it was a nightmare trying to find a…"
"Where's Ria?"
Vrinda's smile faltered and she nervously raked her fingers through her messy bun as Yug kept his eyes firmly on the laptop [the one Vrinda was really beginning to hate]; completely ignoring her save for the one question – and even that was for a two year old who could hardly get through a meal without giving herself a facemask.
"Urh; she's outside. Bharti really seemed to take a liking to her."
Yug glanced through the glass doors that overlooked the lower floor of the office where the majority of the workers were crowded around Bharti's desk. Ria sat in the middle, the centre of attention and loving it.
"Yeah, she's a great kid."
"Bharti or Ria?"
She was pretty sure that she could see a quirk in the corner of his mouth but it was gone as fast as it came.
"Listen Vrinda, I'm running late for a meeting so I'll have to talk to you later."
He busied himself with gathering scattered files, barely glancing at her as he made his way to the door.
Vrinda wasn't sure where the urge – or possibly burst of insanity – came from; but she quickly stepped forward, brushing her fingers lightly against the sleeve of his crisp white shirt.
"Look, I know you're mad…"
"I'm not mad."
He bit out, resolutely looking away; allowing Vrinda's gaze to follow the arc of his neck to the rigid line of his jaw – which clearly meant that he was mad.
"Yug…"
Somehow she found her fingers hovering over the stubborn line of his jaw; almost but not quite brushing the bristles of the two day old bears he hadn't yet got round to shaving. She sighed, wishing that he would at least look at her; but regretting it as he clasped her wrist, cornering her against the wall before turning the full force of his gaze on her.
"I'm sorry."
She whispered, barely acknowledging the laptop bag uncomfortably nudging her knees as Yug regarded her with a grim expression.
"Are you apologizing for being stubborn or stupid?"
Vrinda glared in return, fruitlessly trying to release her wrist but only succeeding to pull him closer.
"I can look after myself."
The files landed on the desk with a thump as his other hand clasped her elbow and pulled her roughly towards him until she could feel the hard of his chest under her palms as her fingers desperately clutched his shirt in an attempt to stay upright.
Yug loomed over her, his eyes boring in to hers as the tip of his nose faintly brushed hers. Vrinda was sure that if she tilted her face slightly higher then she'd her lips brushing ever so slightly over his mouth…
"Let me get this straight Vrinda; I don't give a damn if you have an army of guards standing outside your hotel room; I want you somewhere where I know your safe!"
"I thought you didn't care about me."
He hesitated at her barely whispered murmur; hold tightening ever so slightly as his eyes flickered over her upturned face.
And then his expression hardened.
"It's not about you Vrinda; but I don't want you putting Ria in any danger."
And then he released her, swiftly stepping away as Vrinda regarded him in stunned silence.
"Pack everything. I'll be picking you up at 7 and after the party I'll take you to my apartment. You'll be living there with Ria until the wedding.
He grasped his files, brushing past her on the way to the door before pausing momentarily;
"And like you promised Vrinda; please try not to embarrass my family tonight."
And he left, slamming the door behind him as Vrinda grimaced. Pulling out her mobile she turned back to the glass doro, watching through the blinds as Bharti momentarily glanced away from Ria to answer her phone.
"Hello; Vrinda?"
"Forget taking the high road. I'm going to knock Yug of his feet even if it's the last thing I do. Do you still have his credit card?"
Bharti turned towards Yug's cabin and grinned.
