The first episode of Bigg Boss Season 3 saw higher TRPs than Farah Khan's show, Tere Mere Beach Mein. On the one hand, Amitabh Bachchan introduced the housemates to the viewers and on the other, Shah Rukh Khan was the guest on Farah's show. "Both the shows belong to different genres, mine is a chat show with just two people conversing. You can't compare the two shows," says Farah Khan, who confesses to be a reality show viewer.
Ratan of Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo says, "Viewers do get tempted to keep track of reality shows once they get hooked on." Rajan Shai, director and producer of shows like Bidaai and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai feels otherwise, "The viewers know that reality shows are nothing more than publicity gimmicks. These shows come and go and even if the viewers develop a fondness for a particular reality show, they don't remember it after a year." He adds, "Some of the soaps did well even during the time of IPL. I think that validates the point that daily soaps enjoy the attention of a diehard fan group."
Ragini of Bhaskar Bharti says, "The nature of the shows is detrimental to the TRPs it generates. The only way to get a viewer's attention is to introduce fresh and interesting elements to the show."
