Maggie Smith talks HP in new interview

In an interview with The Courier Mail, actress Maggie Smith discussed her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter films:
"Well, yes, for a younger audience," she says. "Not that I do a vast amount in those films. Of course, it can absolutely stun children if they suddenly connect you. I suppose I'd be noticed a bit more if I walked round in that hat all the time. Sometimes, I'm in a restaurant and I can see them thinking, 'Hmmm, I know who that is', and when they work it out, they go completely to pieces." Then what happens?

"Then you sign all sorts of things for them and say, 'No, I'm afraid I can't turn into a cat'."

Reminder: HP actors in Florida next weekend

In case you've forgotten, six actors in the Harry Potter movies - Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum), Devon Murray (Seamus Finnigan), Jamie Yeates (Marcus Flint), and Tolga Safer (Karkaroff's Aide) - will be at FX 2006 in Orlando, Florida next weekend, where they'll meet fans and sign autographs.

If you're interested in attending, check out the show's website.

Update: The show organizers have let us know that Matthew Lewis (Neville) and Chris Rankin (Percy) will no longer be attending, as they begin filming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that weekend. It's a shame, we know, but at least this means Chris will be in OotP!

Potter thief sentenced for 4+ years

20 year-old Aaron Lambert, who stole two copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in June 2005 and attempted to sell them to two UK tabloids for $100,000 each, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison earlier today.

Judge Richard Bray said, "You realised the books had considerable potential value. It was only through the good services of the press and police that fans of Harry Potter - both young and old were able to read the book without their pleasure being polluted by the premature publication of the plot."

The man who threw away a first edition Potter
The Telegraph has an amusing article in which the writer, Nigel Reynolds, recalls the memory of being the first journalist to ever interview J.K.Rowling.

Quote:
A year later I took my nine-year-old son, Tom, armed with his battered paperback of The Philosopher's Stone, to hear J K read at the Edinburgh Book Festival. Afterwards, I introduced them. She was warmth itself and asked Tom if Harry Potter was his favourite read.

"No," he said as I blushed. "Goosebumps [by RL Strine] is." We still have the copy in which she inscribed: "Thanks for liking it and I don't mind about Goosebumps. Honest."
