Recap: Yudi is bit by a snake and is cared for by the magical girl.
Chp. 8 Saksham arrives.
Saksham called kunwarji again, luckily this time he could hear the ring. Kunwarji, please, please pick up the phone, he prayed. But no one answered, he tried again. The girl, who was taking care of the wounded man, heard a phone ringing. It must be the man's cell phone, she thought. She checked his shirt pockets, empty. Then she realized that it was from near the man that she heard the sound. His pants, she thought. She checked his pant pockets and found the cell phone. It was blinking and had SAKSHAM written on the screen. She had never seen or used a cell phone before. She had only heard about it. But still instinct told her that she should press the green button. She did so and the device stopped ringing. She put it to her ear and said, "Hello?" Saksham was finally relieved to hear someone answer the phone. But it was a female's voice. "Hello," he answered. "May I know who I'm speaking to?" she asked. "Yeah sure, this is Saksham, may I know where is my friend and why are you answering his phone?" Saksham asked calmly and braced himself for the answer. "Saksham ji your friend is wounded and I'm looking after him. He's unconscious so I had to answer his phone," she answered. "Ok now can you tell me your location so th- hello? Hello?" Damn, thought Saksham, the phone lost network and got disconnected. He tried calling again and again and again but without any success. He saw the trail formed by blood leading towards the north and decided to follow it.
Around ten minutes had passed but Saksham had not called again. She changed the dressing again. She was feeling quite tired. She sat down near the cot with her head resting on it and within a few minutes before she realized it, she fell asleep.
Saksham walked for some time and then he spotted a hut. He went nearby and peeped in. There on a cot lay kunwarji. A girl was sitting by his feet, she was asleep. He entered the hut kunwarji had a bandage tied on his shoulder and was unconscious. He was slightly pale. The girl had taken good care of kunwarji she must be tired, thought Saksham. He decided not to wake the girl, but rather wait. He was pacing up and down the hut when suddenly his phone rang. It was Nihariha. The network was weak so he went out and received the call. "Hello Niharika ji," said Saksham. "Saksham, where are you? Where's bro? I been trying his cell but it is not reachable. What is taking you guys so long?" she asked restlessly. If he told her anything she would simply be worried. He decided not to tell her anything. "Niharika ji, relax, kunwarji is fine, he's not here at present, we have been held back due to work, we'll be there by morning. Due to weak network it won't be possible to contact you. I'll inform kunwarji that you had called," said Saksham. "Fine, take care of bro and yourself," she said. "Yeah you too, good bye," replied saksham. "Good bye," she said and hung up. Saksham went back in the hut, the girl was awake. "Excuse me," said Saksham. The girl turned and Saksham was surprised to see her.
It was the same girl who they had seen by the riverside. The girl whom kunwarji had developed a secret liking to. "Are you Saksham?" she queried. "Yes," he replied. "What happened to my friend?" queried Saksham. "Snakebite," she replied without emotion. "What! Then we need to see a doc urgently. Snakebites can be fatal too!" said Saksham in a worried tone. "Relax, your friend here is very lucky. I and my friends happened to be nearby when he was attacked. We heard a yelp of pain and then a thud. So we decided to check out. We found him in the bushes. I've removed the venom from his body and bandaged the wound after applying a herbal paste. He'll recover soon. He did wake up twice but became unconscious again. The fever has also come down," she said calmly. "Well, thank you very much you will be richly rewarded for what you've done," Saksham told her. "I do not want any rewards for this, it was my duty. Now since you are here, I hope I can entrust him to your care and go home," she said. "Yeah sure, thank you very much once again," he replied. She rose to leave, Saksham wanted her to stay but he couldn't tell her to. He didn't even know whether kunwarji had even seen her. He couldn't just let her go, this was their only chance.
"Excuse me," he said. She turned, "yes?" "Well you know my friend would like to thank you personally, so could you please tell me where can we get to you?" he asked innocently. "It's ok, there's no need for that," she replied. A cell phone rang, this time, it was Yudhishter's. He went to receive it. "Hello," he said in the mouthpiece. "Hello sir, this is Smita from NEW PRODUCTS, we have launc-" "At present I'm busy and not interested, thank you," he said curtly and hung up. He turned to face that girl, to his surprise she had vanished.
