Make or break match: Mona Wasu with the Miilee team The small screen evidently has big aspirations. For the first time a football match is being shot extensively for a daily soap now, styled on Lagaan. The entire team of Raman Kumar's Miilee will come together to play a football match to save Miilee's convent. "This match will mark the turning point in Miilee's life," says Rajam, director of Millie. The entire cast and crew of the show has been practising for this match for the past 10 days.
"The match isn't being treated as just another track in the show," he continues. "Everything in Miilee's life is at stake, with the match. If she loses, she will lose the land of her convent where she has lived all her life to her father (played by Kiran Kumar)."
The episode has been shot on police ground in Goregaon. Twenty-two players and 100 junior artists have been working hard day and night to pull this sequence off.
"We had an hour-long discussion with the entire team before filming the sequence," says Rajan.
Do the makers intend to recreate the Lagaan magic on the small screen? "Not really,"he replies. "I won't deny that the inspiration is drawn from Lagaan but the situation, the feel and the treatment given to it will be completely different."
The match sequence will run into three episodes and will cover the entire gamut of comedy, emotions and drama. The sequence is slated to go on air next week.
