I'm wondering if and when it's okay to have more than one wife and how it works exactly. I'm a little bit confused because in one serial it's okay and it works while in another serial it's not okay or it doesn't work. For example in GKLB it works (Suryakant/Savitri/Menka) but in Dulhan it didn't (Amar/Divya/Gauri). I guess I'm wondering if Dev could end up with two wives and if he does would it be acceptable or not and if it is acceptable how exactly would it work.

In this serial it will not work .
Because dev is rajpurohit .
Bigamy is against hindu law .
but recently court has given recognition to a woman , not married but living with a man as his wife , same rights as the wife .
rather atricky situation . could be used by creatives any way .

Based on what you're saying I have to wonder how the Purohits will get him married again without ensuring he's legally free to do so. The last thing they need is complication for the Raj Purohit.

Bigamy is NOT against HINDU law. On the contrary, bigamy is allowed- in Hindu literature, u find instances of rishis with multiple wives as do kings.

Indian constitution does not permit bigamy. However as the Indian courts allow Hindu laws and Shariat laws to be accepted in court, then there should not be a major issue with bigamy. Divorce will not be allowed as per Hindu law! It was not uncommon for even the first wife to find a second wife (not too long ago as late as the 20th century) if she could not bear a child etc.

I was wondering the same thing.........Also, I would like to know......We have seen Shastriji perform Vishaka's tarpan. Isn't that all symbolic because obviously she is still alive. If the parents perform tarpan doesn't it only affect them and not the rest of the world....Purohits? A lot of times people say.."From today you are dead to me" ...but it's all symbolic. Does it also dissolve her marriage? In today's update Shastriji said to Dev something about their relationship having ended.

I am really confused and would really appreciate it if someone can explain this. Thanks

Dev really only has one wife; Rads is his real wife. I don't know how this will all play out, but eventually that truth has to come to light.

Blokes- I meant Hindu marraige Act in the current times .
Ofcourse in olden times many marraiges of a man were permitted by the Samaj , on the pretext of various issues .
In our times , bigamy is against the law . the court will pass a decree if the 1st wife protests .
But the court has diluted it by permitting some legal rights to a live-in relationship . like maintinance etc. if the man discontinues his relationship with her & equal rights to the children borne out of this relationship as his other children out of legal marriage .
vishaka may fall in the category of live-in relationship .
but she is too proud to claim anything Now .

you r right rushtrip- it is unlawful to be a bigamist in the Hindu marriage act of 1955. Anyways, the best grounds for annulment would be fraud- vishaka never took the pheres with dev.
she can also be framed under desertion, but for that, there needs to be a minimum of 2 year wait before dev can marry rads. (my cousin is a lawyer!LOL!)
