Age Difference in relationships?

Hey now here is an interesting topic...
Why is it "ok" that a man can marry a woman much younger than himself but now the other way around
a woman marry a man much much much younger than herself?

so...

Should it be un-biased? I think so. Man and Woman should make their own choice. ;)

I'd put it this way... Why can't people marry other people of THEIR age?? Why should they look for ulterior routes? Why can't they mingle with generations that think along the same lines as they do? I don't necessarily mean the same age... I mean somewhat around the same age....


Oh and I've seen around me women marrying men much younger than them, over here its not really given so much of importance, specially in some of the communities that are very "liberal"....

On a personal front, I think its because of the thing about "Who's the boss in the house?"... A woman who would be much older than her husband, for the cases I've known, would be much more authoritative before him than another woman younger than her husband would be! This could result in the husband becoming frustrated after a certain period of time, leading to a rupture in the couple's marriage life... Whereas a woman much younger doesn't make all that difference on that field... Because lets be frank, both have to compromise in a relationship, but the wife is often asked to be the most sensible one... Its been going on since ages, we won't stop it now...

Also, I've seen marriages of couples around the same age work much better than those not around the same age... Because generally, being from the same generation makes you have similar tastes, similar viewpoints on matters and similar opinions of decisions to be taken... Even through difficult times, its much easier coping up if the opposite person is willing to listen and understand... This becomes much much more difficult as one tends away from the spouse's point of view due to generation gap....

hmm... well people have their own personal preferences. but i think girls r mentally more mature than men. so men r supposed to be older so as to match up with each other. but if u find to be good with a girl too older or younger than u then go ahead.

Most young lady marrying elderly men is due to financial reasons or circumstances.

My question is - what according to people is an age disparity? How many years gap can there reasonably be between two people?

15 and 25 may seem like a big gap, but 33 and 46 do not seem as much of a gap. The older we get the more we expand our communication age range. The psychological and intellectual gap closes too, so thats why people over a certain age tend to have wider relationship age gaps.

Typically women mature earlier than men. That is why most long term relationships are where the guy is a few years older. That is because their mental wavelengths can be the same with that gap.

Young men in their late teens or early twenties with women in their thirties or forties occurs because these are the phase when both genders have their sexual peaks.

Apart from that, men who get into relationship with older women either need to be mothered and fussed over or are at a phase where girls of their age seem to immature and distant. The problem with this is that once the man becomes more or less independent and starts connecting with girls around that age, they will not be able to maintain relationship with older women.

Women with older men is also not always for money. Up to a certain extent and age gap, women go for older men because they appear more stable, more ready to commit and in a better place in life when they know themselves.

IMHO age disparate relationships take place sometimes for well meaning reasons other than ulterior motives. But yes sometimes they can be disgusting and downright creepy.

yeah I agree that age differences are weird sometimes- the most extreme ones...but I mean, i dont like sexism. People think the man has to be older, but why does it matter????? eh? let people do what they want is what I personally say :)
