How important is a smile?😛

A Japanese rail firm has introduced a system to check that staff are smiling at all times. Is a smile key to better customer service?

The Japanese value good customer service and it is standard practice on trains for smartly dressed conductors to bow deeply as they enter or leave a carriage.😳

Computerised scanners at around 15 train stations in and around Tokyo will evaluate the broadness of a smile and advise those not smiling enough that they look too serious.😕

The system is also being used in a hospital in Osaka to check the friendliness of staff, as well as at a truck stop in the northern island of Hokkaido for long-distance drivers to measure their tiredness.

What are your experiences of customer service where you live? How important is it for staff to smile? What do you think of a system that monitors how much staff smile? Should we all smile more?😊

Smile is important, but only a really genuine honest smile brightens up the day. Forced smiles in any situation just ruin the beauty of a smile. Thats why if establishments want their employees smiling all the time, get them smiling Disney masks.

A smile is important. It helps to break the ice & puts a person at ease. It s nice to be talking to a person who is pleasant rather than grouchy. But the smile should b genuine. A fake smile wud B seen thru quite easily & serve no purpose. A genuine smile brings happiness to the person smiling as well as the person being smiled at. It generally brings out the smile in the other person too.
For a person of pleasant disposition a smile is the most natural thing. This is what the customer service dept tries to inculcate .
But monitoring the smiles of the staff is a bit too much ! 😆
There R some ppl who find it extremely difficult to smile. Having them serve a customer with a forced smile will only make it look comical ..

If staffs are expected to smile at customers then customers should also do their duty and appreciate the smile . The purpose of smile is to make both feel welcomed, we have to welcome customers hence we smile at them making them feel at ease. But it makes life difficult if the customer does not appreciate the smile. They should understand that a staff that works long hours, does the same monotonous thing day in out and day out meticulously..they should understand that at the end of their shift they must feel rotten from inside but yet try their best to maintain high level of customer service. It wouldnt do them any harm to treat their staffs the way the customers wanted to be treated and give them some respect. Rather than acting like posh nobs holding their nose up, shaking their head, smirking, grinning and wagging their shopping bags like a dog's tail
Also monitoring staff smile?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
GEEZ!!!! Let the staff live in peace, they already have enough in their plate to feel depressed at work..let alone have hidden cameras to monitor who has the best smile, the most charming smile, the most dimply smile, the most cutest smile, the most mischievous etc etc....they cant expect their staffs to have a fixed smile eh??!! this is the most hilarious thing ive read today!!!! 🤣 ..I guess during the interview process they might just hire them cos of their smile and not their skills!!!!!
ps. how cute is this pic??

Well, unnecessarily monitoring ones smile is going to make the thing even worse; the employees will stop smiling at the thought that their 'smiles' are being watched all the time! I mean (unless you are experienced) if you know there is a camera in front of you, noticing and recording every step you make, you will get over conscious about yourself, and this is going to have an effect on the employee's 'smiles'.

Also, as many stated above, nothing could be more hilarious and peculiar than a forced smile. It's just too much weird for my liking. I can still picture the male waiters of Pizza Hut, who who used to keep smiling, irrespective of what is happening around them. I was at first mistaken if their mouth really is like that, as to always form a meaningless smile. Gosh, we broke into a long laughter each time the waiters came across us with their 'smiles'. 😆

Smile = Peacefulness
Laugh = Happiness

Hoping that is sufficient.
