| Himesh Reshammiya as he appears now in his new look (above) and then (above right) | After the chartbuster Aashiq Banaya Aapne, music composer-singer Himesh Reshammiya is again all over the place with Jhalak Dikhalja from Anant Mahadevan's forthcoming film Aksar.
In recent times, Reshammiya has been wearing the tag of rendering hits one after the other as tightly as his cap he wears on his head. He realises that he has to consistently churn out chartbusters to stay at the top.
"I am aware that I have to keep on improving. I also know the fact that there could be that track which will not do well. I'm prepared for that," he says as he tells us… My music sets the mood for the film… That the film is a hit helps a lot. But as a music composer I am like the opening bastman. The music is heard prior to the film's release and if I make a good beginning, things are on track. The cap, leather jacket are my new image… After Aashiq Banaya Aapne, I decided to change my image. Prashant Chaddha, who has directed by debut music video Aap Kaa Surroor, is responsible for the look. He told me that it proved lucky to me with Aashiq Banaya Aapne; so we decided to stick to it. . World music is my next step… Right now my music is youth-oriented with Sufi, rap and raag overtures. Next, on my agenda is to compose using world music. I know exactly how to use it; I am just waiting for the right opportunity. I compose three songs a day... I basically follow five steps to compose a track. First, I begin with a prayer. Then I make notes of the lyrics; the genre of the film. Next I sift through my library of notes. I have over 1,000 notes composed over the years; most of them are rap-based. I then select the tune and make it raag based. Next I place the words and arrange and orchestrate it accordingly. I am a great follower of the R D Burman and Laxmikant Pyarelal kind of music. I have immense faith in God… Things in life are pre-ordained. You have to accept that certain events happen because God so desires. The moment you accept this, you know how to take life on. My father, Bipin Reshammiya, is my guiding force... Whenever I compose my music, he will listen and tell me exactly what he feels within minutes. He has been into music; so I value his comments greatly. I am indebted to Salman Khan… He gave me my first break with Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya. Even before this assignment I had met Salman for a project I wanted to do with him. At that time he was busy, but he promised to get back. He remembered with Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya. I owe my success to God, my dad and Salman — in that order. Expectations are very high from me… I get a free hand to compose and people have implicit faith in me. They depend on me for the next chartbuster.
