A historic event

For the first time in the hundred years plus history of Indian cinema a biography of a cinematographer is being published. The subject of the biography is the veteran cinematographer VK Murthy. Murthy, through his collaboration with late director Guru Dutt, gave our cinema some of the enduring images in classics like Pyasaa, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Kaagaz Ke Phool. Unarguably, the pioneer of modern aesthetics in Indian cinematography, Murthy sahab, as he is affectionately addressed by the film fraternity, is the role model for a whole generation of young cinematographers in the country. The book Basilu Kolu (Ray Of Light) is written by Uma Rao in Kannada, who researched it for over a year. It is published by Prism Books, Bangalore, in collaboration with Kodak India and Govind Nihalani's Udbhave Dreamzone Pvt. Ltd. The book was released on January 1, 2006 at Bangalore by MP Prakash, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.
