I think it is bakwas, him claiming that his wife knows and gave him permission. If Ather's wife did give him permission, it was probably under pressure that he would leave her, so she may have done it to maintain her own married status and let him take another wife.

How can he reveal this so late in the game? I also think it's completely unacceptable that to him, this is all about just his own wishes. I don't think this guy thinks about his wife or about Rakhi's wishes.
