Aditya Chopra's maternal uncle's son Vikram Singh is turning director but not for the Yash Raj Films banner. Vikram has got another producer to make the film for him as he and cousin brother Adi can't really see eye-to-eye.
Never for Uncle
A source from the industry reveals, "Vikram has had a script ready for a couple of years. He has been trying to get an actor to feature in this young thriller of his. But one thing he has been sure of from day one is that he wants to direct the film but never for his uncle Yash Chopra's production banner. Vikram is the son of filmmaker Gava who was associated with Yash Chopra and Rakesh Roshan."
The source further adds, "The film was initially going to have John Abraham in the lead. But then there were rumours that Abhishek Bachchan would head the cast with his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was meant to be produced by Sunil Shetty's banner Popkorn Entertainment.
But now it is confirmed that the film is finally going to have Ranbir Kapoor in the main lead and it will mount the sets by the first week of January next year. Other cast and credits are being under finalisation."
Vikram confirms, "It is true I am making my first directorial venture called Mera Jahan. The film is going to mount the sets by the end of this year and will star Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the main lead." When quizzed why isn't he making the film with his cousin, Vikram replies, "Why should I? I already have a great co-producer with me.
My long time friend Samir Ruttonsey (son of Farooque Ruttonsey who produced films like Zubeidaa and Khuddar) and I have formed our production company called Cinema Paradiso and we will make movies under our banner."
