~*DOTW*~

Hello Folks ! Finally our DOTW is back ! 😃 It has been dormant for a while because we felt that no one was interested in participating in discussions, so we decided to cover topics that went beyond TV/Movies etc, so that everyone could identify with them.

Hence I can say that we're here with a new and improved DOTW !

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you believe that Astrology/Numerology does impact one's life ? Do you think that there is any basis for these predictions ? Or they are simply larger-than-life ways of earning quick money for con artists ?
We have amongst us, people with varied views on this subject. There are people who strongly believe that predictions made by Astrologists/Numerologists does effect their lives to a great extent, while on the other hand, there are people who think that these predictions have no scientific basis, and is common method of earning money by fooling people.
In a nutshell, Astrology/Numerology has thousands of supporters, and thousands of opposers. The debate on this topic is in a way, never-ending because there are people for whom these predictions have always turned out to be true, and there are people for whom these predictions have always turned out to be futile.
So what do you think of this particular subject ? Have any of you ever consulted an astrologist or numerologist ? Have their predictions proved to be useful ?
Do discuss in a healthy manner. The credit for this topic goes to Soha ( roxthefox )
We're stupid to assume that they're mind-readers and are omniscient like God. It just doesn't work that way. (Word. Life is complicated and simple mind readers can only guarantee peace of mind for a handful days.) To the contrary, actually. They give us nothing but false hope. You end up being more shattered then you were before. Not only aer you left with your problem, which was never solved in the first place, but on top, you've lost a good chunk of money by being trapped in the words of those that claim to know all.
I say all this, because there has been many people around me who believe in this crap, and who continously engage in it. I've seen them waste thousands of dollars, only to add to their emotional anguish.(One thing that I utterly can't stand is that when these folks come back crying and yelling "Hum barbaad ho gaye." You'd think they'll learn their lesson, but then not everybody is smart. 😆) Anyone who blames someone else for their own demise is a blantant idiot. I know that it's really easy to get sucked up into false hopes and promises, but what was your first clue? Did they believe in unicorns as well?
Last year, there was someone in my family, who was actually like a father to me, who suffered a stroke. He was in the hospital, and no one had any idea if he would pull through or not. I worked with a girl who claimed to be a psychic (Lord, she was so weird) and told me that she would look into the matter for me (I didn't ask her to). Anyways, I had spent all night praying, and I fell asleep for an hour or so. I woke up 5 in the morning, to recieve a text message from her that read: 'I'm Sorry'... I thought 'huh?" ... a few minutes later, I recieved a call from my family and they informed me that he had just passed away. 😲
(I am sorry for the loss first off and I can understand it nust have been extremely devestating)
But Huuhhhhh??????????? That invalidates all of the previous argument.
Lol, could have been an easy guess. His brain was pretty much dead, as he suffered two back to back strokes. The timing was phenomenal. She could have the gifts that she speaks of, but who knows? She doesn't charge, FYI, so maybe she is a creditable psychic. I still wouldn't consult one, even if they were free.
NIMMI!! Those pictures of Priyanka are absolutely GORGEOUS! Too bad they're poor quality, too small and have text all over them. Any chance of better quality pics?
i dont believe in "streetside" astrology at all. the concept s simply bizarre to me. no person has the power to tell what the future of another person is. humans dont have that strength... and hypothetically, even if they did, then why are they so adament to tell YOUR future. cant they just alter their own and become millionaires? lol...
i wouldnt go to calling them con-artists...theyre just making money and their not stealing anything from you. astrology is just fun stuff...entertainment...not soemthing to be taken seriously.
LOL, you bring up such a good point. If people have the power to see future, and alter it, or have the power to change lives, then why wouldn't they adjust their own? Before scamming people, these so called psychics/astrolgers are some of the poorest people in our society. If they had the gifts they claim to have, wouldn't they change their lives for the better? Satisfying relationships, money, etc etc?
Entertainment purposes? That's only a label to protect themselves from legal trouble. When astrologers/psychics claim to have 100% accuracy, and promise psuedo guarantees, such as solving problems within an established time frame, they're esentially promising you results, what's so entertaining about that?
Do you really think any of the thousands of callers are spending money simply to be 'entertained?' Why not just ask strangers on the street for psychic advice? That's bound to be much more 'entertaining!' The psychics put advertise themselves as giving answers. I don't think many sites will advertise they they are psychic and then say, 'But don't call if you are expecting to get accurate information because, after all, this IS entertainment?' They know why they are there (or are supposed to be there) and we and they know why we are calling. So quit copping out on that ridiculous disclaimer (not saying this to you, but for people who carry that disclaimer in general).
It is okay. I was waiting for the links in the other topic so sorry for being dormant. Here is my response.
Do you believe that Astrology/Numerology does impact one's life ? Do you think that there is any basis for these predictions ? Or they are simply larger-than-life ways of earning quick money for con artists ?
It can make an impact if we perceive it to. In other words if you are looking for it to, then I guess you will try to find incidents in your life that will match. I have never been to a psychic or anything of the sort, but many of my friends are into horoscopes and are like I am a Pisces so I am like this or a Gemini so this way. And I suppose those weejee boards can be kind of fun. This is all speculation on my part, but it is always interesting how people take different meanings of things like many different cultures would make assumptions about you based on the number of characters your name were and how that made you inherently evil/amusing. The way this has been used throughout history is an eyeopener to show how much people can rely on their superstition.
So what do you think of this particular subject ? Have any of you ever consulted an astrologist or numerologist ? Have their predictions proved to be useful ?
I have never consulted an astrologist/numerologist though I do pass one on the way to school every day. But I think that as long as no one is hurt and it gives someone the peace of mind to say that I am this way because I am a Leo or we will be good matches because he is a Gemini, then it is cool. The girls in school who used to read the horoscopes in the fashion mags and used it diagnose their dating problems always amused me. So that is my only experience or to read the ones in the newspaper for me and see how wrong they are. The only fortune cookies that I have liked have been these Vincent Van Gogh ones with his quotes in different colors I got from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They are pretty insightful and not really predictions but wise words to live by. What I have found interesting though I don't believe in them is those people, who claim to be mediums and can communicate with dead spirits like Sylvia Browne and supposedly talk about some thing that the dead person wants to communicate with the loved ones behind. Those are kind of unsettling and I don't believe in them but they are very very interesting. There was a show called Joan of Arcadia that dealt with that stuff but was a bit more religion based with Amber Tamblynn that I loved. But it was a funny look at it with a teenager, who had the gift.
Sorry to get more serious. The cases of conning people of their money I do find disturbing to put it frankly. Especially though that one case in Bombay where due to kala jadoo, a mother killed her child because it was deemed to cause evil made me so bloody angry. So I tend to be skeptical of so much that I could never believe or put faith in some abstract prediction or anything like that, but as long as it gives someone a little bit of happiness then I have no problem as long as it is harmless.
Soha, I wrote it. Happy now?😆
